Wonder how much can we blame MS for this? I had my laptop start up from hibernate just to install some updates, while packed in bag. It was super hot when I noticed it. Why would they design software to do this????  This was win 7 but i've noticed the same irrational behaviour on w10 on a different machine as well.

Seriously,  who in their right mind would put a notebook in their checked in baggage...???..  and expect to see it intact or even there at the end of the flight

You may soon have to explicitly list off the number of laptops in your checked luggage, be forced to carry it into the cabin, or place it inside of approved bags before boarding.
