Is there a way to change the 960m to a better gpu?

Hi! As far as I know this motherboard supports DDR3 1600 MHz only. I've found this while I gathered the some information before I bought a version of this notebook about a year ago. So I can't remember the source of this information. Unless there is a new revision...

I have a slightly different model with I5 6300HQ (which is by specification also capable handling of 1866 MHz DDR3 and 2133 MHz DDR4), 8 GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM, 256GB SSD, matte FHD display and it was about $800.

If I am here I just want to leave a mainly positive message about this computer.

I  also had some annoying issues at the beginning, but all have been fixed after several Win10 and driver updates. (past issues where: graphic driver failures with firefox and audio driver failures after resuming from sleep) I assume those where Win10 problems rather than driver.

I am not a gamer, I use the computer for programming, circuit board development and 3D modelling beside everyday use.

-have no problem typing on the keyboard for hours (nor phantom clicks nor other issues)

-battery life up to 10 hous with programming, 8 hours with music or video, 6.5 to 7 hours with internet surfing (display backlight down to 30%, keyboard unlit, dedicated video card off, SSD only(!), WIFI off exept when surfing, TPD is down to 35W by setup)

-Dell has a preinstalled app, so battery charging can be disabled, when it has more than 50% (can be set to 50% to 100%), so extra charging cycles can be avoided, I like this feature a lot. But yeah, the charging should be displayed somehow, because the indicator LED is always on when it is not fully charged while it is connected to the main supply even it is not charging according to the custom setup. Anyway I can live with that.

-have no problem to use the touch pad at all

-the display has some bleed at the botttom, but it is visible mainly at boot time. The angle and the quality is good enough, with the matte surface no problem beeing outdoor exept having shorter battery life by using brighter backlight

-at normal use the cooling is mainly off, exept installing updates, heavy calculations, infinite loops... ooops :o, or usage of the dedicated grapics card ( it happened for some reason the calculator app has got automatically assigned to use the dedicated graphics card rather than the integrated one and started to run the fan, but it can be reassigned by the NVIDIA utilities)
I also had problem with the "Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Utility Application" which supposed to save me energy instead of running the CPU like crazy, but it's been solved by a recent Intel driver uptdate

-boot up in 20 second, app starts are really fast as well (on SSD of course)

-tempting CUDA capabilities for heavy calculations   8), anyway it's comming with the graphics card

-an empty bay for a second of course SSD drive

-oh yeah, the housing can be a bit stronger... ::) , my bad

I really like the simplicity of the design, it is not like a christmas tree full of extra LEDs, unnecessary slots weird patterns and many other artifacts.
Yes it is not perfect but after all, anyone can say anythig, I am pretty satisfied for that money...

Hi:) how to find whether this motherboard supports ddr3 2133MHz or not? i7-6700hq in specification supports only ddr3 1866MHz and ddr4 2133. Does it mean that ddr3 2133MHz doesn't supported by this laptop?

From the Keyboard section:

"... status LEDs for some keys..."

Can anyone point out which keys those are, other than caps lock, whose status LED is visible in the keyboard picture (i.e. wireless/Bluetooth, num lock, scroll lock etc.?)

Unfortunately the HDD status light appears to be missing (as on a lot of laptops these days). Contrary to some disinfo out there this is NOT a dispensable status light in the world of computing. It should sit next to the power status and wireless status lights on the front edge, so all this useful info can be seen with the lid down. It's not a novel idea nor a new invention - the lights were put there a long time ago for good reason.

The Inspiron 15 7559 is a very good premium multimedia a href="http://www.ezydeal.net/Category/LAPTOP-DELL-101">onlinedelllaptops</a> that you really can't go wrong with. Mind you, it is on the expensive side but we feel that the overall package should leave you satisfied. You get a great UHD display, beefy components, and a good set of speakers for all your multimedia needs.
The laptop performs very well thanks to the included SSD, which has about enough capacity for the OS and one or two games. The laptop can handle most heavy games too, provided you don't play at the native resolution.

Great review, it's very detailed and well explained. I got the Dell Inspiron 15 7000(7559) with an i7-6700HQ, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, with an Anti-glare UHD Screen. I was inspired to use this review as a reference for our class activity. This is the link for my blog: https://techsider.wordpress.com/2016/07/27/budget-gaming-laptop-early-2016/

This is what I got back in January, had it for over six months and it's easily one of the best machines I've ever purchased for the money. Disregard the 4K model here. It's overpriced and you'd be better off buying an XPS for that price anyway if you want a 4k screen. Besides, a 960M can't drive 4k anyway.  :p

The review score would still be about the same, except the i5 model doesn't throttle under 100% load and the PSU is plenty for the lower power draw the i5 manages with. :D

I wrote a horrible review for this system 7 months ago.  Most the issues were software, so after 7 months my computer is now usable.

Touch-pad:  I have finally reconnected my touch-pad wire (internal), and found not only a way to resolve the issue by putting several layers of tape over the touch-pad.  But also I have found that windows has added additional features though an update to correct the original issue.  The touch-pad now disables when typing and stays disabled quite nicely, there are also now many ways to disable it.  These were added through a Windows 10 update sometime early this year.

Windows 7:  I never had an issue with this.  In order to install windows 7, you must load USB 3.0 drivers during the install.  Becuse windows 7 can't access an external drive or USB stick through the USB ports you must load these drivers during install (or compile them into your USB stick).  You will find that everything but Bluetooth operates correctly, and Bluetooth works with "most" devices.  I have now fully upgraded to windows 10 as Microsoft has resolved the issues in windows 10.

Freezes UPs:  Both the Intel and Nvidea drivers had issues.  It didn't matter what video card you used, you would experience freeze ups when using any 3d intensive program ( game, video editing, or drafting program).  New drivers became available in February.  Installing these updated drivers resolved the issues.

My system now is very responsive.  Dell should have resolved many of these issues before it shipped.  In Dells defense many of the issues where Microsoft's, Nvidea's, and Intel's.  Its just sad to see a machine ship with so many software issues that should have been resolved before it shipped.

Even as I type this on my 7559 - I mutter to myself- This computer is unusable. It has already registered 5 errant mouse clicks...

Start Menu > Settings > Devices > Mouse & Touchpad and then under Touchpad disable the touchpad altogether, or turn off "Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected"

Thank you.

I recently bought one of these beauties and the keyboard is brilliant, as is the track pad (i have no idea what the guy reporting errant clicks is waffling about - but he seems to say exactly the same thing on ever thread i have read).

Unfortuntely the one draw back (not the screen which is beautiful) is the poor battery, which gets around 2 hours when i use it connected to wifi, surfing and working with word, some google chrome use. That part is very disappointing, as is the lack of Dell batteries or choice of extended life variants :-(

Other than that though this is brilliant

We bought 3 of these laptops to use in the office. Could not install windows 7 on the laptop and we're now forced to go to windows 10. Dell said the laptops don't support windows 7. Can't even get windows 10 installed on one of the laptops ,and it was a headache to get that laptop to stop booting into a Seagate Linux type is.  How can dell sell this in the first place ?

Even as I type this on my 7559 - I mutter to myself- This computer is unusable. It has already registered 5 errant mouse clicks, and i have only typed not even 2 full sentences. I am only going through the literal agony of typing this to save others from the same experience.

A lot to like from the snappy Intel 6700HQ CPU, but nothing to like from DELL. I am A+ certified...and sadly Dell certified too.  Don't buy this computer what ever you do. Sound issues, Graphics driver issues, Ships with Single channel memory requiring an upgrade to get performance. But it is the touch-pad that makes it completely unusable.

I give up, I can't even type. I give up with 3 or more errant clicks every sentence. It would be one thing if I was brushing on the touch-pad, but my hands are nearly a half inch above it and it still registered errant clicks. Stops when you cover the touch-pad with cardboard. But the touch-pad can't be disabled. Spent 2.5 hours on the phone with dell... touch pad can't be disabled in windows 7.

The following paragraph details what I have to (where did windows media player come from) do to actually type something. If it is unreadable it is because t(why did start just pop up) this computer is unusable.

So rather than fix each error, I am typing in (click back to bottom) what I have to do to type this. If this is unreadable (close chrome, where did that chrome window come from?) after (close st(close device manager)art) (click back to (close system manage(Close start) I ty(close notepad)(So after losing ty(how did my courser get here)(close start bar)pe (wait how did my courser get here? ) it is not because I suck at typing but because this computer is unusable!

(how did my curser get in a different place again?) After losing this three times and retyping it or as close as I can. I now opening a window that isn't web based and won't delete every thing with a single errant click, and when it does delete (close start)(close device manger)(would this computer please stop opening windows due to errant clicks?) I w(missing letter here due to errant - close start twice) ll have to copy and paist it in. So the touch-pad registered errant clicks and moves things on you. Deletes things on you. Opens windows on you. Things you type while th(how did that window open get selected I am just) The keyboard d(put cursor back)es not register keys while the touch-pad is registering the errant (close start bar) (3) (retype) (clos(how did my curer get g here?) )e start twice) clicks(2now i am here ).(how did I get (switch back to window) here)

-- Sorry this is the best I can do, I completely give up using this. Probably going to have to sue dell to recover my loses. This is simply unacceptable.

Here in the US, many of us confirmed that the 4K panel is not true RGB but RGBW pentile. We have the same LGD04D9 / 156UD2 panel as in your notebookcheck review, but look at the subpixels:

http://imgur.com/yS4djZz

You can read the discussion here: http://slickdeals.net/f/8518351-dell-inspiron-15-6-4k-touchscreen-laptop-i5-6300hq-8gb-ram-1tb-hdd-gtx-960m-750-free-shipping?v=1&p=82354047#post82354047

Either there are two versions of the same panel, or the picture of subpixels in your review is wrong. I hope that you update your review with this new information (7559 4K screen is RGBW pentile in the US). Many of us bought the laptop because of this review, thinking the screen is true RGB.

There are a few problems with this laptop.  My graphics display adapter always locks up and freezes.  Also, when the laptop comes out of hibernation, the Dell i7559 touchpad locks up every 10-20 seconds.

Other than that, the i7559 gets a thumbs up!
