If the Display is from Samsung I am out. I have had multiple AMOLED Displays from Samsung burn in on me... Its never been a problem with my 3 prior Xperias with 4K Display (XZ Premium LCD, X1 II OLED, X1 IV OLED) likely because Sony could tune them how they pleased and set the max. brightness timidly.
I also have qualms with the change of resolution. I have good enough eyes, where I can see single pixels on 6"+ 2K displays from time to time, maybe is just how i use my phone, when watching content in Bed, but its never been a problem with 4K displays.

as long as they upgrade the headphone jack and batt life along w. solving the thermals everything is a win imo.

I love my xperia 1 and my new xperia 1 V they are very easy to use because of the form factor, easy to hold great quality displays, I have quite big thick hands from labouring and body building so they just fit in my hands easier and my thumb reach is better.

I intend to upgrade my Xperia 1.3 to a 1.6 and I hope both these two rumours are true. I had forgotten the Xperia 1 has a 4K screen because you simply cannot tell in normal use. It is an unnecessary overhead. I also want a larger overall screen to compete with the "max" and "ultra" models. Significant screen size increase is not very practical if you maintain 21:9 aspect ratio.

A 1440x3200 20:9 display without 4K nonsense is perfectly fine. Do complainers really think a 1:9 difference matters?

So, then bye bye...I don't care about 4k display, but if they remove 21:9 display then I'm out...
Maybe they can add whole punch cutout i won't mind at all, thus the phone will become a bit smaller and better screen to body ratio...

I wish Sony never leave the 21:9 factor for the flagship Series.
It may experiment other than this ratio but never leave 21:9.
I know what it feels to hold in the hand.
Writing from my Xperia 1 Dual.

Weird move, I still use my original Xperia 1 and like the form factor. Might have to bite the bullet and buy a 1 Mark V. Phone providers don't offer them in Canada, so I buy mine outright. Looking at $1400 CAD before tax for a Mark V. The phones are great, but I think Sony has a problem with doing anything to get the wider consumer base to buy their product. Where I live, it's iPhone or Samsung. Android means Samsung to these people.

well, I will be buying it regardless. was already tempted by 1 V, but it is not wildly available on contract, at least not in the UK. cannot wait to ditch my iPhone 13 Pro Max. i just hope they will extend software and security updates. otherwise, honor magic 6 pro will take my money

I've been holding out for the Mk VI, but if this is true I'm out. I may pick up a Mk. V to replace my current Mk III instead. Disappointing news if true.

I've been hoping for Sony to do this for years but it pains me to see that some will be upset over this. Phones need more diversity and while the remote-like 21:9 ratio is just too vertical for my liking, I hope they keep at least one phone with that ratio in the lineup.

Aaand I hope this rumour is true for at least one of their phones. I'll buy me a Sony right there and then.

21:9 ratio is great also having a clear screen without any hole is great too, problem of sony, lg, htc, nokia and other great brands we have or had are they first waiting to customers sign for their products and after that order to factory, it is wrong today, chines companies order millions phone, and force buyers to choose their phone because its available on any store and shops, the other thing is chines companies and also samsung learn from them and survive is having many models, if someone buy your entry level phone and he or she feels good also their knowledge about sony brand will grow and they will become loyal fans, new generations only see xiami! and they think its a leading in technology, however big companies like sharp NEC or other gods in edge of technology, when playing high level games like space, they close their small business like phone laptop so end user do not touch their power so customers forgot big companies and when they grow and become someone in their lives they not be customer of power full companies cause they don't know them, Japanese companies should secure circle of their business, normal people should touch their technology, new generation must know the great names like sharp, nec, toshiba, fujitso, brothers,.... :():

Bummer if true. Love the long, slender form. Fits in my hand and amazing for watching movies. I don't think folks AREN'T buying the phone because of the ratio. They just don't understand everything else.

Quote from: Zoonie on March 15, 2024, 22:34:39I really hope this is a fake rumor. The 21:9 ratio is a true blessing for one-hand use and fits better in the pocket. Having had a 21:9 for a while I'm gonna have a hard time going back to 16:9 :(

The ratio is not important. It is the lack of crappy punch holes or "islands" that is.
