Quote from: Mr Majestyk on January 30, 2024, 03:43:11Look at the power draw though 14.7W, nearly 3x that of 2021 SoC. That;s tablet class. GHz and power going stupid for phones, already SD 8 Gen 3 is a crappy throttle happy mess.

Where 14w is mentioned bast@rd? Apple a17 pro is prone to overheat like your mom

Quote from: chipexpert on January 30, 2024, 10:51:02The results are good, but not good enough to keep up with the next Apple A18 Pro chip.
This also applies to the multi-core, as the Apple chip only has 6 cores.

Apple has beaten the long-standing chip manufacturers by far in a very short development time.

Listen dumbo, android phones are already better in most of benchmarks other than applebench named geekbench. Stop crying now

To be fair though, high end SoC's have always been a scam, one way or the other, no matter who manufactures them. For this reason, I kind of wish media outlets would stop giving them so much coverage. You're just giving these companies free PR / marketing. Yes, we are already aware the upcoming SD8G4 that is coming from a year from now is basically gonna throttle to SD8G3 levels, there's no need to let us know, we already know - just like every other high end SoC past few generations / years.

Now, what I am more interested in is, mid range SoC's such as the upcoming SD 7+ Gen 3 as they typically give close to last gen high end SoC's but with much better balance of thermals, efficiency and battery life under sustained load. From what I understand, it should perform just below SD8G3 cpu-wise as it has a cpu config similar to it but will probably be below SD8G2 in terms of gpu performance due to lower clocks. Hopefully, it'll be in more phones this time unlike the SD7+G2 which was only in one phone last year, the Poco F5.   .

At this rate I barely don't care much about raw performance or numbers so to speak, there's nothing on new battery tech and a chipset that would impress is one that has great 'sustained performance' in relation to great 'efficiency'. Cortex A78 is the peak in performance and balanced efficiency.

The singlescore barely scratches the Apple A17 Pro. But it certainly won't be able to keep up with next Apple A18. I finally wished for the same performance as Apple. But still a good step forward.
it is better tho. Apple has only consistently been better at single core performance...and that's it. Other SOCs have been either on par or better in multi-core, general cpu, GPU, and AI performance for a couple years now. I don't think it's fair to make single-core performance the standard #1 benchmark only because Apple is best at that. when a SOC only wins 1/5 benchmarks, that means it isn't #1. not even close.

Apple chips have been achieving a better multiscore than others for years. The Apple chips only have 6 cores compared to 8 like Snapdragon and Co.

Single core performance is the most important tho

When you use words like "insane," it reduces your credibility. But I guess it's what the gamerz respond to.

A new leak has now outed benchmark results for what is claimed to be the two next-gen mainstream Android flagship chipsets, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400. Both chipsets seemingly crush their predecessors on Geekbench and AnTuTu, posting numbers that would indicate around a 50% performance upgrade across CPU and GPU.
