Wooow, thanks for that massive kick of nostalgia! What an amazing game, just watching screenshots of it now reminds me of high school days when the game just launched and was talked about like everywhere. I was lucky to get its demo included on one CD in a magazine called PC Chip, installed it, could barely run it because it was quite demanding then, but still had a loads of fun which extended later to the full game too 😍

if someone is playing it and doesn't see clear connections to it being a plantation slavery sim, they are already damaged,
How would you classify and describe Sims; playing god and having total control over humanity? Or even better, RTS games such as Age of Empires where one nation is wiping another nation to extinction (😱) in order to win a ranked multiplayer 1v1 match?

@Codrut Nistor
if someone is playing it and doesn't see clear connections to it being a plantation slavery sim, they are already damaged, it will not change them
weird people are trying to downplay it to a more convenient to debate "animal cruelty", but it is a straight up slaver sim. also lifehack for "just a game": executing and replacing pal-slave sometimes is faster and cheaper than making him happy. whew, good thing this never happened in history, oh wait

Let's just stop playing every single game then because you can find something similar about any? See, I'm just taking full control over a cute little cat in Stray, totally against his will probably! He is just following my commands and meowing while I'm pressing buttons, #animalcruelty 😥

Codrut, well said! 👍

Right now, there are over 20 million slaves in the world. One form of slavery or another, at least that's what the statistics say, and the reality could be even more grim. However, guys, I think you are taking the discussion way too far in this case. It's just a game. I don't know how many of its players make any connection between enslaving some virtual characters and enslaving people in the real world, and I am sure that playing such a game would not change my opinion on this subject in any direction, not even a single bit.

Yeah...

media for the masses tends to do that - IE: marginalize, take advantage of or outright conquer some species for the benefit of the protagonist.

While there are examples of the protagonist being the one fighting back against the above both are overused story lines that due to their overuse normalize a horrid concept that has happened far to often in the real world.

With a peak value of 1,291,967 concurrent players so far, Palworld got the leading position on Steam for this weekend, ahead of Counter-Strike 2's 1,008,813. However, there are still four places left to conquer in the all-time ranking, where Dota 2 and Lost Ark are leading by less than 30,000 players.
