I'm sure it won't change much, but I canceled all my subscriptions to their channels. 2 years later they're going to do an investigation into Madison Reeve. If anything she said was true. There's just no way that management above her didn't know anything that she didn't say anything to any of them. They just brushed it off like he's gotten in the habit of doing with everything else.

The last few years there's been a number of annoying instances where he just acts like he's right about everything and everybody around him says he is so and just ignores any concerns.

I couldn't agree more. Most of these popular YouTubers are sad lunatics, nothing more.
Most people are tbh, most people like to put themselves on pedostools. And to hate on any form of authority or person of a higher class.

Linus have turned himself into a virtual nobody to an internet techie celebrity in the span of a decade.  Will always respect him for that.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I highly doubt he was properly trained to run such a big company.  It's quite obvious he doesn't know how to properly manage so many staff members.  As with nearly everyone with a quick rise to fame, he does seem a little self centered, but that's besides the point.

Was his staff totally out of line for stepping on others without valid proof? Absolutely.  I'd begin firing people for their incompetance if I was Linus.

But let's get real here. Steve, depsite what he claimed, obviously posted that video (you know which one I am talking about) out of spite for calling them out for false accusations.  A natural response to protect his reputation.

It's not all so black and white here folks.

Quote from: Alf on August 21, 2023, 16:35:24This current fight ... Sorry but it all feels like a huge commercial for GN. It is a good thing to point out anything incorrect but not like how it is done now.
Mistakes are made everywhere but put a microscope on it and blow it all up beyond reasonable ... That is only done to gain your own advantage from it ..GN.
Yeah, this 100%. Also nothing against GN but they also showed no real data, just pointed out that LTT's data is/was false/incorrect. And even if it was false, so what? I love NBC a lot, I like to read reviews here but they also make plenty of mistakes and errors. People point those out, they correct them. Big deal. Yet no one is pulling out NBC about being inaccurate like they do with LTT. So your observation is what I believe is behind this whole "drama".

Following both, LTT and GN for years now.
Completely different approach but both valuable to me as a PC enthousiast. Where LTT works hard on PC news and tests with a good smile on your face, GN is boring, harsh but correct.

I stick to both channels. The current attacks are out of proportion and I respect LTTs 'stand down' to look for solutions. Time for GN to give LTT time to fix ...stop kicking now, the fight starts to look unfair ...

Quote from: Absolutelyrichard on August 20, 2023, 18:14:11Unfortunately, information has come out proving parts of what Gamers Nexus reported to be false. An example is that Billet Labs originally gave LTT the unit to permanently keep, which changes the entire narrative.
I'm on mobile, can't look up the exact quote, but it was in the line of "to keep for future projects/videos", meaning they were hoping for favorable review/video.
After the actual video that totally bashed the product came out, it was clear that LTT didn't want the product and Billet Labs asked it back, and on two occasions, they got a reply that LTT would return it. But instead it got auctioned off.

Quote from: Absolutelyrichard on August 20, 2023, 18:14:11There is a large conflict of interest between Gamers Nexus and the upcoming LTT labs.
No, there isn't. They're competitors, there's no COI, that's a bit different.

Quote from: Absolutelyrichard on August 20, 2023, 18:14:11This isn't the first time Gamers Nexus has engaged in unethical journalism and reported false and unverified information to stir up anger. Sadly, many people worship Gamers Nexus and refuse to believe the they would do such a thing, even though it has been shown multiple times in the past.
Where's your ~45minute YouTube video on the topic of GamersNexus' ethics and false reporting? Sarcasm aside, proof-examples-sources to any of those claims?

GN incorrectly reported voltages during their coverage of the AM5 CPU failures and accused ASUS of still exceeding AMD's revised guidelines. They did not check with the vendor for the process on correct measurement and gave high side readings as if that is what the CPU was receiving. They did not correct this information post-video. This by itself is unethical so a little hypercritical to accuse other media outlets of not conducting themselves properly.

What's more insidious than the trite echo chamber are all the other Youtubers dogpiling for their own metrics and benefit. They don't need to comment on any of this either in length (silence is not supporting anyone's actions) but much to their disillusion, the gaming crowd is incredibly petty and always falls for this stuff. Gossip runs the world no matter how high and mighty one thinks they are above all that.

Always surprised but should not be surprised by the hive mind.

I read this comments and found only people who didn't initially disliked him commented so I will leave my comment. It's impossible to be liked by everyone and other people will always have an opinion of someone. It's their opinion but if they go on to comment about that they don't like the creator, why comment about it? Did this help you or something? Go on say what you want, you will definitely find a fellow members you will back you up, because there is always a person who will have same position as you, not because your position is right but because there is one always one with same opinion as you are.

Was never a big fan of Linus. There was always something about him that I found unlikeable. Came off inauthentic and just lots of superficial things about him I found personally irritating. However, I did watch LMG content if the subject matter interested me, but more for entertainment value than for any objective journalism.

So, it will be interesting to see the long term implications of all this since Linus has been tremendously benefiting from the cult of personality and this altruistic, nerd-chic, techie persona his fanbase has given him when in reality he's nothing more than an youtube influencer peddling his brand for monetized clicks and likes.

You can be disappointed in your idols, but at the end of the day, they're still human like the rest of us and when you put them on a pedestal, there's no where for them to go but down. Hopefully, Linus and LMG learn from these highly publicized mistakes and evolve into a better media company.

Linus Media Group (LMG), the parent company of YouTube channel Linus Tech Tips, has found itself on the receiving end of heavy criticism regarding repeated factual errors in videos and toxic workplace environment. The bulk of LMG drama unfolded after Gamers Nexus, a YouTube channel focused on PC hardware, uploaded a lengthy video lambasting LMG for factual inaccuracies and questionable ethical practices.
