3840x2160x30x144(444 mode) = 35831808000 bps, 36Gbps clean data without service overhead. Taking into account the service overhead with 16/18 bit encoding, we get 40310784000 bps.
Thus, even with lossy DSC compression, this guarantees an almost perfect signal quality even on HDMI 2.1 transmitters cut from 48 to 40 Gbps.

After all, manufacturers cynically declare support for 8k@60fps at 444, despite the fact that even full HDMI 2.1 with 48Gbps is not 100% enough even in 24bit, and is possible only with monstrous lossy DSC compression.

So for TV, supporting 4k@144 is basically a foolish waste of crowd time playing around in lossy DSC mode, no problem at all.

But for people working with precise graphics - impudent and deceitful statements of manufacturers about 8k@60fps 444 support are a problem. But I don't care about the gamers, nobody cares about their problems.

Quote from: RTINGS' Adam BabcockUpdate on this: it seems like our initial 48Gbps results were incorrect, we're not sure why. After we posted the update to the review yesterday, Samsung reached out to us and confirmed that this wasn't changed in a firmware update. All Samsung TVs with the OneConnect box have been limited to 40Gbps since 2019.

It appears to be a post-review downgrade by firmware!:

rtings.com/discussions/szUdhIL-Wkp2tnF0/review-updates-samsung-s95c-oled (sort by "newest first"):

Quote from: RTINGS' Adam Babcock[..] We tested it when we initially tested the TV, and the TV was reporting a max bandwidth of 48Gbps. We rechecked it yesterday, both with the original tool we used and with the same Murideo tool that Vincent used, and the TV now reports a max bandwidth of 40Gbps. There have been a handful of firmware updates since we tested the TV, so the most likely explanation is that Samsung changed this in a firmware update. The Inputs Specifications section of the review has been updated with this information, including screenshots showing the original 48Gbps result and the new 40Gbps limit.

Waiting for RTINGS' update on the predecessor S95B, that I use for PC gaming and want overclock to 144 Hz, 10 bit and full 4:4:4 chroma. And no, SCAMSUNG, I'm not going back to overpriced IPS garbage PC monitors. Lets hope LG OLED TV gets 144 Hz and 48 Gbit/s, so 10 that bit and 144 Hz are possible.

Quote from: RTINGS' Dylan CreteWe've actually began looking into a few things on our end in relation to this. We're hoping to expand on it and update our review once we finish our investigation. So, stay tuned!

The reasoning on why it failed, I have no clue but it did and that's a fact.

Did it fail? Are you talking about implementation?

DP is a computer standard for monitors and is not interchangeable with HDMI. The maximum cable length for DP is 1.8m, for HDMI it is 10m.

All this scam with ports is rather tired. It's high time to switch to PC and consumer devices to an optical link - where one cable will be everything at once with a bandwidth from 500Gbps-1Tbps. In this case, power can be supplied as usual through copper conductors.

With an optical link, people will get a completely different level of comfort in games and work - it will be possible to take the system unit to the back room or another non-residential room and sit in complete silence even with 100% load on the processor and video card. At the same time, on the table there will be only a hub connected via optics with the peripheral ports needed by the person at hand.

An optical cable will easily allow you to transfer data at a huge speed over a distance of 50-100m (like Ethernet has been familiar to everyone for a long time), which will immediately solve all problems both at home and at work.

Full version HDMI 2.1 have bandwidth (without service overhead) - 42.2Gbps(48 with overhead).

Without exception, manufacturers of equipment scam with HDMI 2.1 ports for a simple reason - scammers from the HDMI Standards Consortium allow them to do this, deceiving buyers. A class action lawsuit against a consortium of producers and manufacturers has long been needed. In general, this is the task of state consumer protection agencies in each country, but since the whole world depends on the technologies of the West - they can do what they want. Much more interesting is why there are no class-action lawsuits against the consortium and manufacturers in the US / EU about this ...

Me be like: Ok, finally 144 Hz native panel on S95C..but Samdung reduced the bandwidth from 48 Gbps to 40 Gbps..bruh. LG, cume on, now u make 144 Hz panel and u win in this regard. We people PC gamers demand our 144Hz4K4:4:4chroma, not 120Hz4K4:4:4chroma.

Here's how u calc it btw:
144 Hz:
chroma 4:4:4: ((3840+560)*(2160+90)*3*10*( 1 )*144*1.25)/10^9*1.125/1.25 = 48.114 Gbit/s.
chroma 4:2:2: ((3840+560)*(2160+90)*3*10*(2/3)*144*1.25)/10^9*1.125/1.25 = 32.076 Gbit/s.
chroma 4:2:0: ((3840+560)*(2160+90)*3*10*(0.5)*144*1.25)/10^9*1.125/1.25 = 24.057 Gbit/s.

Cume on, we are PC gamers after all and want the most possible out of HDMI 2.1a.
If u, SAMSUNG, don't like HDMI because of license fees, that's understandable, but the please add DisplayPort 2.0. Thanks and nice QD-OLED tech, superior to W-OLED indeed (more efficient, brighter colors, closer to Rec.2020 color space,..)

Also: Dear HDMI Forum, when new HDMI spec so SAMSUNG can go 4K180Hz444chroma or maybe even 4K240Hz444chroma? Older titles are runable at these settings.

Nothing surprises me about this company. Just lloed what happened with last year's model and false claims leading to a fw update to roll back advertised feature. They are called Scamsung for good reason

Just like LG with the CX WOLED debacle back in 2020, Samsung sneaked 40 Gbps HDMI 2.1 connectors on the S95C QD-OLED, yet it actually advertised 48 Gbps connectors. This limitation comes from the One Connect box and is not present on the more affordable S90C models that are missing the external box.
