Too bad Ford dealers in all their greed mark up the F-150 Lightning $25,000 or more.  At least the Tesla CyberTruck will be sold directly to customers negating the overpriced Ford stealerships!

I definitely agree with Ford on this one that the cybertruck doesn't appeal to serious buyers, just techbros.

Plugin hybrid != hybrid

Plugin hybrid lets you plug the car in to recharge it. If it has decent range, most local trips and idling can be done on the battery and you only use the engine for long trips

QuoteThe most important advantage of the F-150 lightning to me is that it looks like a normal truck. Most people don't want something overly showy like the cybertruck or the Rivian, and Ford is offering the option for that.

The truck market is broken up into 2 big groups, one group uses the trucks for work, the other use it for fashion. The F150 lightning lacks the range and charge speed to appeal to the work group. And its too plain to appeal to the fashion group. In comparison, the cybertruck actually appeals to both.

Quote from: A on June 22, 2023, 04:27:40To be honest, I am not sure who the F150 lighting appeals to. I am all for pure EVs but Ford should have made an F150 plugin hybrid with 50 miles range instead. And focus on making their other cars pure electric.

If anything in terms of practicality, the 500 miles range on the cybertruck makes it more practical than the lightning due to simply the users needing that base. Otherwise, the other market for trucks is fashion, and a cyber truck would probably be more unique

This is why Ford should have focused on their actual core audience, with an F150 PHEV. But the lightning feels like an attempt to not eat into their ICE truck sales while trying to limit Tesla into their space

Despite recently reaching an agreement with Tesla to include NACS charging hardware, Ford's CEO, Jim Farley, has had some choice words about the Cybertruck, all but dismissing its viability as competition for the F-150 Lightning as a work truck. According to the Ford CEO, the two vehicles are aimed at different market segments, and the Cybertruck is more of a techie status symbol than anything else.
