Are EVs actually efficient? Since most of the electricity still comes from coal that needs to be taken into account, the power lines also, then the efficiency of the batteries and finally the motor, and EVs are sh*t heavy, easily surpassing 2 tons still carrying that (most of the time) one human around, OTOH the efficiency of internal combustion is approaching 50%...

So no indication of how many miles of range this car has. This is a great article.
You forgot the kilometers to miles conversion.
Hint: 1.6

Given that the temperature at which *diesel* starts to freeze is around -15 (a bit lower with additives), I'd have thought lots of diesel motorists and truck drivers would have come up with a way around this... Oh, they already have.  Why would it be any more difficult with EVs?  It's just another excuse to avoid having to do things differently.

I have a mx5 in soul red and to be honest this cherry red is giving me huge soul red vibes but at a darker shade. A shame it's 3200 eur for the option.. Of it was 1500 I would've gotten it.   For soul red Mazda only charges 750 eur

Quote from: David Majoy on May 07, 2023, 21:48:40Recurring question as a Canadian is: what is the cold weather performance of the various batteries?  Example; commuting 60 kms with temps -30c; car parked outside with temp rising to -20c and return commute of 60kms in -25c. Night parked unheated, so the battery might spend weeks on end being very chilled.  The problem is spooking many people needing a reliable way of ruling out the problematic battery cars in winter conditions.

Over 90% of new cars sold in Norway are EVs, some places get so cold diesel freezes but EVs work fine.

Weeks on end being chilled isn't a problem unless it is almost empty, unlike lead acid batteries lithium ion isn't going to die in the cold. Though you may not get accurate readings from the battery until it is warmed up, and you should preheat the battery first before driving off because regen won't work until battery warms up. Otherwise, no issue.

Though usually very cold places have places to plug in for cars anyways, that is because your gas car won't start or can get damaged. So they have engine block heaters. If there is a place to plug in a block heater, you can plug in the ev as well.

I think I remember a video(from a security camera) of a BYD catching fire just sitting there...

Tesla's Gigafactory in Berlin has started production of new Model Y versions, both in terms of battery supplier, and when it comes to the colors the electric SUV is available in. The Midnight Cherry Red Model Y has made a cameo, as is a standard range version with the safer BYD blade LFP battery.
