The first thing I do when I get any handset is turn all the animations ("smooth transitions") off. They are just a gimmick that slows everything down.

Hopefully the LiDAR is part of Google's new commitment to XR, it can be used for three dimensional object detection when stereo cameras aren't available.

Thank god, I hate rounded displays.  They are a pain in the a** when you have a decent case that provides real protection.

I have used both Apple and Android face recognition and they are light years apart.
Not to mention that Android hasn't succeeded in replicating the smooth transition of iOS software, opening apps, minimizing, switching between apps, menu pop ups, etc. ...
lol uh yes, they have. The animations and smoothness are identical. And have been for a few years now. Is your Android phone from 2017?

High-resolution renders of the Pixel 8 Pro have leaked online, roughly half a year before Google is expected to announce the flagship alongside the cheaper Pixel 8. Revealed by a reliable leaker, the images show significant design changes from last year's Pixel 7 Pro, including a flat display, a revised camera module a perhaps even a LiDAR sensor for improving portrait photos.
