I wish they'd make one of these without a hard connected cable. I have tons of USB cables and I have to bring them along anyway - but the hard connected one pokes out and makes it hard to fit the box into my gear bag. It's great if you're just connecting it to a desktop system, and never moving it, but as a mobile device, it's annoying.

I've had standard price, all the way up to $70 "premium" name brand USB hubs end up pooping the bed after about 18 months, even some of Anker's prior models. With my XPS 13 only having two USB-C ports... it is super necessary to have one at all time to backup video footage onto external HDDs, as well as be able to access SD cards.

What have you heard about the lifespan of this one?

Anker has unveiled the 552 USB-C Hub, a new Series 5 gadget with nine ports. Outputs include a 4K HDMI 1.4 port, 85 W pass-through charging USB-C and a Gigabit Ethernet port. Also on the device are 5 Gbps USB ports for file transfers and SD/microSD card slots.
