Quote from: LyntonB on February 09, 2023, 17:47:27It's a massive con job. the specs are the same or worse (EXCEPT for process fab), they're pumping up the clock rate to compensate and massive reliance on AI marketing, fake framing etc. Avoid if you can! get last gen or wait for AMD competition!
Last gen makes some more sense if you have unlimited power budget, not the case for laptop, and then there's high risk of mining cards.

Nvidia may be getting away with it but, as a side effect, they earn nothing from some people (such as those quitting 3D gaming entirely due to Nvidia's greed) and long-term 1/10 of what they would earn from people like me in the case of non-greedy prices.

Quote from: Spunjji on February 06, 2023, 09:21:03Spoiler alert: the price increase will not be worth it, just like it hasn't been on any of Nvidia's other Ada-based cards except for the already-absurdly-priced 4090. The milking continues.
Yup, but it seems they're gonna get away with it anyhow.

...last gen was on Samsung 8...Ok the jump in process is bigger than I thought, it's more than a full node apart, actually probably close to 2 nodes......which makes the performance not so impressive considering the process itself could contribute something like a 50% improvement iso-power...

Moore's Law Is Dead leaks AD106 and AD107 die shots complete with size and starting price estimates. The new chips appear to be significantly smaller than their previous gen counterparts, but this is to be expected from GPUs produced on TSMC's N4 nodes. Price points seem a bit too high, however.
