I received the mine and I've find the assembly quality not bad but far to be very good.

The left corner of screen leave hear some crack when a very little torsion is applied. The bottom plastic panel dont fit well near the heatsink of two sides. Unfortunately, the mine is arrived with one stripped screw ... if compare with the necessary torque of other screws, but the undercover is staying always removable.

The motherboard is really well shielded. The CPU/GPU is encapsuled, a generous metal armature prevent the board bending and the power plug is not welded on the board. But, the edp cable is not far to be for a one use only and need a better sheath.

The consumer service is outrageous and the Dell repar center don't know resolve a issu when they replace a motherboard, doing a bad thermal repasting and received the laptop after for overheating.

Laptop is working good approximately 50 days, 250 days restarting at each 30 minutes and dead after a little bit more than one year.

This laptop works great, when it works.  In the 45 days I have been using it, it has went to black screen on startup 2 times, tech support has me unplug it and how start button for 15 second to get it going. Then I allow them to take control, and check everything is ok. Then a few days later it will not start at all, same thing. I am told not to use sleep mode, to turn it off. Then a few days later it I notice that after closing the lid, it did not go into sleep mode, it is still playing YouTube videos.  When I open it up to turn it off completely, I once again get the black screen. I am sorry I bought it, I was so happy to be able to finally afford an alienware computer, but it appears Dell has ruined alienware.  I wish I could return it. I was hoping to use it in the where ever I happened to be to do some gaming, but I am giving up on being able to game any where.  My m17 will be in the closet

I have the m17 R5 with 4K resolution, works reasonably (wifi and bluetooth driver issues on Win11).
Worst part is that it requires the 240W "tig welding" powersupply or battery only - when using a 80W or 120W psu then the CPU is forced into ~0.4GHz clock. So you need to drag the heavy psu around if you just need to fiddle with spreadsheets for a day.

You all don't have to complain about the behavior of M$. People all over the world are to blame for the fact that there is no real competition for M$ products on the planet. They push for monopoly standards and proprietary code, including colluding with iron makers who claim that proprietary code allows them to protect their intellectual property. All people have driven themselves into a digital concentration camp. Voluntarily. Now you see the results. And it's not evening yet. Further it will be worse.

Does everyone know that new laptops from 2021 practically no longer support S3 (STR - Suspend to RAM) sleep mode, the lowest consuming and fastest sleep and wake mode? Leaving only the nasty S5 and the ever-working OS and wi-fi / cell modules, like in smartphones?

Now you cannot turn off the laptop leaving it in sleep mode, where only RAM works, storing the current OS and software dump. You will either have to accept S5 or turn off the laptop completely (but then you will lose the ability to turn it on for 1-2 seconds, like with S3 and get all the open software as it was before the shutdown). And if you use idiotic hibernation with a ram of 32GB or more, then even the fastest SSDs will not be able to write a memory dump onto themselves and restore it faster than in 5-7 seconds, which is several times slower than with S3 mode. And not only that - if you put a laptop or PC into hibernation mode 10 times a day, then you will get SSD wear with a 32GB memory of at least 320GB per day, or even more. Do you like it? But M$ really likes that she and the hardware manufacturers, in collusion with her, deprived you of the good old and fast S3 sleep mode.

Do you think why M$ pushed the S5 mode and TPM into the masses? This is your homework...

Regarding AMD drivers, can you check if windows didn't change the drivers into its own???
Yes! now even with blocking driver updates (or updates all toegther) with a group policy, president decree this thing is out of control
within the last year with 2 AMD laptops,
the radeon software stays still (microsoft store it is j think) but the disgusting stupid windows silently changes them.
i have been having nightmares with some chipset drivers going question mark.
every one or two weeks, i check the driver log event in device manager and YES! mighty windows did it over and over a year and half old driver it thinks its the best..
i despise microsoft with a passion last was windows 7 for me..
now with this 22h2 win 11 hell let loose.
your admin right you eat it.... security processor app execution prevention, memory prevention and air prevention
i had to script strip it off of everything.
No wonder they call it O&O SHUT UP!

QuoteUnlike Nvidia's Optimus, AMD's SmartAccess always caused the system to hang for a few seconds when switching between the integrated and dedicated GPU,

NVidia:

QuoteNVIDIA Advanced Optimus Overview

[...]
  • Display switch between integrated and discrete GPUs can freeze the screen for few seconds

    • Upon closing the last application that is in allow list, the switch back to integrated GPU is triggered after a delay of few seconds. This would mean that the screen freeze associated with the GPU switch will occur few seconds after closing the last application that is in allow list for display switch.
  • ...
  • The display screen may appear to be frozen for a few seconds when the display is switched between integrated and discrete GPUs (may take longer on Windows 11).

QuoteHier fangen aber auch schon die (Treiber) Probleme an, denn selbst im Schlafmodus touren die Lüfter plötzlich ohne Grund für 1 - 3 Sekunden hoch.
This is not sleep mode. And the owner-tracking mode, deliberately designed in this way. The author - please do not mislead people. There is only one sleep mode S3 (STR - Suspend to RAM), everything else is a props designed to hide the tracking mode. M$ has intentionally removed apparently available S3 since the 20H1 W10+ release as part of its 24x365 client snooping policy. Moreover, as it has been known for a long time, AMD has problems with enabling the old, kind and reliable S3 through a registry patch - unlike versions on Intel.

QuoteWährend viele Konkurrenten immerhin eine Full-HD-Webcam einbauen, müssen Nutzer des m17 weiterhin mit einer 720p-Kamera auskommen.
On this site, there is a review of the HP G9 835 - there is a 1440p camera. It is a shame to sell laptops without a 1440p@60Hz camera with autofocus in 2022, especially in the top series.

QuoteTrotz 17-Zoll-Größe flog das Numpad über Bord
Thus, this series is sentenced as a universal laptop for both work and entertainment. Sales are sure to plummet.

QuoteVon den beworbenen 3 ms Reaktionszeit sind unsere Messwerte etwas entfernt, wir messen zwischen 11,6 und 16,4 ms.
Another fake screen with a monstrous response time. It never "120Hz" - a maximum of 75Hz.
The contrast is absolutely shameful for a top screen less than 900:1. AdobeRGB coverage is insufficient.
And worst of all, it's not 16:10, which is more versatile.

And the worst thing, as we see from the review, the author could not even calibrate it to a sane level with dE less than 2. Such a screen immediately under the bulldozer - the whole batch. You can't give more than 70 points for such rubbish!

Why NB authors do not measure viewing angles with a sensor? P degree of drop in brightness and contrast? You can't trust a word. We need digital comparisons of real viewing angles.

It is also impossible to use this laptop with the lid closed at full power as a system unit - the screen will burn 100% from overheating.

PS,
The speed of ram, as usual with AMD versions, is shameful. In general, the laptop is too noisy despite the AMD platform, i.e. no sense - no silence in surfing (as was the case with the Dell G5 5587), no Intel speed.

The question arises by itself - for which target group is this piece made?

In the new m17 R5, Dell bets fully on AMD, both for the processor (Ryzen 9 6900HX) and the graphics card (Radeon RX 6850M XT). We take a look at whether the components work well together in the 17-inch gamer and whether the AMD combo can stand up to its Intel/Nvidia rivals.
