Yeah photographers have been asking for one for years, but it may actually be doable in the next couple years, we just need the upgrade cycle to slow enough for R&D to make sense, since it's effectively a camera it needs a ~3yr cycle, and annually upgrading slabs is making less sense every year, so if this persists somebody just might make the jump and make a big heavy phone with multiple large sensors and a variety of optics, matched with deep integration with computational photography.

Hmm, interesting, but with Vivo's record on gcam support(not to mention possibility of bootloader unlock) Xiaomi could remain the best choice of making full use of that sensor, unless Vivo's optical solution proves all-round superiority to Xiaomi's...unlikely.
And as for the camera brandings...waiting on somebody to pick up Linhof 😅

While phones like the Sharp Aquos R7 and Xperia Pro-I already launched with 1-inch (or 1-inch type) camera sensors, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra was the first the utilize it properly and receive the adequate media attention. The list of phones with such a sensor is set to lengthen next year, too, it appears with the Xiaomi 13 Pro tipped to be joined by phones from OPPO, Vivo, and Honor
