Not quite. I avoid:
- Android phones: no privacy / data protection, no / way too few updates, often no 16:9, often with camera holes.
- iPhones: permanent attack on privacy / data, 3 - 7 years updates is still way too short, way too expensive, no 16:9 any more, currently with camera holes.
- Linux phones: no 16:9, often with camera holes, often still beta, often still expensive.

I get the strategy: releasing a shitty Android-stock phone to put their real Xiaomi-ROM based phones in perspective. And making all stock phones (including Pixels) look bad in people's mind.
The only result they'll get is people turning their back on Android to go the iPhone way. That's already happening fast in the US (now there's more than 50% of iOS adoption), and it slowly happening in EU too. 
It's not that iPhones are getting better and better. It's the Android world that's getting worse.
