I wonder how the display finish on the Samsung Odyssey G8 compares to the Alienware AW3423DW, and if there are any tuning differences for the panel.

Definitely a weird and annoying choice. To be fair, if the cables in the box are long enough for you, it won't end up mattering tho. Also still possible to buy mini to standard cables, it's just pretty uncommon these days.

Samsung has unveiled the Odyssey OLED G8, a high-end curved gaming monitor that will be available later this year. Equipped with a 34-inch OLED panel, the Odyssey OLED G8 has a QHD resolution, an 1800R curvature and a 175 Hz refresh rate, among other features. AMD FreeSync Premium support is also onboard to ensure smooth gameplay on current-generation graphics cards or PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X consoles.
