The funny thing is that people have to pay a thousand dollars just to use these ad machines. There is no personal computing anymore, even the Linux foundation is owned by MS.

I can assure you Linux is not influenced by Microsoft in anyway, not while Linus Torvalds is around, he hates them with a passion. They do contribute code, and do have a seat in the board as does anyone who pays the required fees, but thats the Linux Foundation and not the Linux Kernel. The Kernel is and will remain open source so long as a single developer is around, that is the power of distributed systems and a good part of why Linux is consistent in its success. I have the kernel code with me as does every dev, Microsoft can't do s*** about it. Even if they manage to corrupt the Foundation they cannot corrupt the kernel I'm running or that I compile, that is true for me as is for every single developer involved. Just look what happened to CentOS, they corrupted it and before you knew there was, and is, a bunch of different groups keeping it going under different names. And it wasn't even that disrupted what they did anyway, but was a good drill for such a situation in the community, and the result was a massive success.

Another reason to stick with Windows 10. If Windows isn't in a position I like, I'll gladly use 10 until after EOL. And yes, I will look into Linux, but I'm not close to being ready for such a change.

Why should people pay for ads?

M$ just seems determined to push people away. Mistake or not, the mere presence of this shows they are trying to do it and therefore think it's ok, and as prior experience has repeatedly shown, they're going to do what they want regardless of whether users want it, so more likely than not, if they've gone this far with it, it's going to happen. And with gaming getting better on Linux, they're going to start bleeding customers before long.

I'm glad you pointed out that MS essentially said the feature wasn't supposed to be published yet, not that they would remove it entirely. There's a subtle nuance there that should not be overlooked.
MS gonna MS.

Users recently started discovering that the File Explorer in Windows 11 Dev Channel builds has started showing ads for Microsoft products. Expectedly, this drew a lot of criticism from users. However, the feature is only being A/B tested at the moment, and Microsoft did confirm that this has been a slip-up and has been turned off.
