This should remove any remaining doubt that apple has no plans to re-marry itself to 3rd party GPUs.   The days of AMD or NVIDIA gpus and 'expandability' in general are gone.    Putting all the power on the SOC and leaving expansion to TB4 will continue to be their course.   As will the smallest boxes possible while still providing the thermals they want.

It really looks like the design team at Apple got sacked. Another product with questionable aesthetics. Since it's a fully integrated solution, they should have revived "the trashcan." It compromised on practicality but the design was first class. And this thing cannot be expanded anyway. Perfect fit. Or do something new but better than this.

Apple has unveiled the Mac Studio, a turbo-charged Mac mini and a machine that will be available with the company's latest M1 Ultra SoC. The Mac Studio has more ports than any other Apple Silicon hardware and starts at US$1,999, or US$3,999 for the base M1 Ultra version.
