AMD has made its bet on Samsung,s 3nm gate all around technology . While theoretically superior , Samsung has poor record of execution like their failure with Finfet process like Intel . AMD fortunes are now tied with TSMC 5nm  and Samsung 3nm

Intel does not have a great track record with its partners IP. AMD should be where Intel is now with investing in TSMC 3nm and locking out Intel instead of running a share buy back program, took their eye off the ball; deliver value through delivering products ahead of the competition, taking market share, not buying back shares. TSMC giving up its R&D power house to make bank from Intel orders is short sighted and will only work against them in the long term.

The partnership between TSMC and Intel is solidified through the transformation of the Fab 12 P8 / P9 center in Baoshan into a fully fledged production site with an independent team serving Intel. TSMC thus ensures that the Intel and Apple production lines stay separate and designs remain confidential.
