We all know that new sensor is half a success. Bigger sensor, more Mp, all helps final output.
108mp quad Bayer was great performer if it's about detail, what they did make as though was good enough processing as in enough processing power using good ISP.
Besides that, we now want also fast focusing and shooting, that's why there is lack in improvement. But if you merge 10shots or take one using hi res sensor, it's the same.
The only downside may be what Sony mentioned, lag in read out from sensor.
