eSIM hasn't really been adopted in ANY country yet. The only application for it that is popular is for runners, who want to take their Apple Watch (or maybe Samsung) and not have to carry their phone with them.

But I do think Apple might ditch the SIM tray, alongside the Lightning Port. They might make the back easier to disassemble, and have a connector their for technicians.

eSIM is still not a thing in loads of countries, so this is rather pointless.

A report out of Brazil has claimed that the Apple iPhone 15 Pro may not come with a slot for a physical SIM card. The smartphone, which could be released in 2023, would only utilize eSIM technology for communication purposes. An iPhone 15 Pro configured in such a manner would be a step closer to a portless iPhone.
