92ns is less than 0.0001 ms. Still pretty frigging nominal.

I don't think the added latency makes it "useless for gaming"...

It totally depends on the CPU. Intel CPUs have never been hungry for high RAM speeds, but it makes a massive difference with the Ryzen processors. We'll see what happens.

Does Intel say DDR4 4800 will actually work with Gear 1? I was under the impression that DDR5 support was limited to Gear 2 or Gear 4.

Guys...please...you are writing these articles like you've discovered the wheel the Intel engineers didn't discover. I don't think they are SO DUMB to not test these freaking configurations before launching the actual product and making sure that it is working at least as good as the last generation.
So please, stop trying to look smarter than you actually are, these modes will work just fine and the cpus will most probably game very well even with that gear 255 mode and crap memory.

IN Gear Mode 4 only. Please don't write inaccurate headlines. Gear Mode 1 is what most gaming systems will use anyway.
There is no inaccuracy with the title. Gear 1 only works with DDR5-4800. The title says faster specs are not recommended for gaming. Faster specs can only be enabled with Gear 2 and 4.

5900X now has 70. Are they bad for gaming?

Intel's DDR5 implementation could be one of those cases where first to market does not necessarily translate to a huge advantage. The upcoming Alder Lake platform supports DDR5-4800 RAM natively, but everything beyond those specs seem to prove detrimental for gamers. A leaked test for the Alder Lake i5-12600K coupled with DDR5-6400 RAM shows how the new Gear 4 memory mode almost doubles the latency compared to that of a DDR4-2933 kit.
