I had the same issue with Gmail and uploading files in general, the fix for me was turning on "miui optimisation" under developer options, it can sometimes be a hidden feature, to make it visible click several times "reset to default values" in developer options/ auto fill

Very dumb indeed, but it does work for me now

I have been an avid Xiaomi fan ever since, Mi Max 2, Mi 9T Pro, and now POCO F3 but the recent updates screwed up everything in my phone. Hardware is excellent but they lack on the software side HEAVILY. Unfortunately, I am selling this F3 and going to back to Apple Ecosystem with iPhone 12.

Will definitely not update my Mi 9T to newer MIUI versions until I see that it's actually not trash (and I have compulsive SW update disorder).
They have to maintain so many different devices that it's no wonder that they are having such a hard time updating them all to MIUI 12.5 (Android 11).
And MIUI 13 (Android 12) is just around the corner!

I just disabled MIUI updates a moment ago, just in case.
MIUI 12 is working wonderfully, so no hurry on my part.

Rumors that Xiaomi would release MIUI 13 this month have now been soundly disproven, with CEO Lei Jun announcing, a few hours ago, that the company will release MIUI 13 at the end of the year. The Mi 12 will likely be the first device to launch with that iteration of Xiaomi's skin, while the Mi 11 series can be expected to get updates first.
