No, not in the sense that they need to make it open source.
But like Ars said, they could at least show some code that aren't simple modifications from AOSP, as yet they don't even provide enough for a dev to be able to write anything that runs natively on said kernel, Linux can emulate Windows because somebody wrote an emulator.

Laughable claim. Even ZTE, another major beneficiary of heavy CCP subsidies and political favors, declared unmistakable refusal to use HarmonyOS, much less the other more private manufacturers Xiaomi and the BBK squad, but I'm not gonna argue politics with you since it's pointless anyway.

Right, so let me give u an analogy.  Linux can run Windows software (it's emulating Windows environment but actually interacting with Linux kernel not Windows kernel underneath).  No amount of digging can expose the Linux kernel source code.  All u ever gonna find digging and digging are Windows libraries.  U won't get the kernel source code unless the Linux creator gives it to u.  Without knowing that Linux uses its own kernel to execute Windows apps, u then begin to think Linux is actually based on Microsoft Windows.

Unless u reverse engineer Harmony OS kernel, all u ever gonna find is AOSP code coz the phone version of Harmony OS is meant to be able to run Android apk.  Eventually, the Harmony OS ecosystem will be able to run native Harmony OS software and Android apk.  But Google Android will not be able to run Harmony OS apps coz they use different kernels.  That's when Google/Android gets permanently kicked out of the Chinese market for US gov messing around with Huawei when other phone makers in China opt to use Harmony OS too!

Lol, u guys expect Huawei to expose their microkernel with super-low latency to the world?  Get real, Google can charge a license fee for Google Android, even though most of the code is from AOSP coz Google version of Android contains propietary code.  Harmony OS proprietary code is the ingenious kernel that gives IoT phones and other devices super-low latency.  Huawei did promise to make Harmony OS open source.  This business genius move means they'll reveal everything above the kernel (the portion of the code above the kernel that comes from AOSP) to the world.  Fat chance they took all that software engineering talent to develop the microkernel that is the real heart of Harmony OS and give it to the world for free!

The standing issue, at least up to the moment of the publication of the Ars article, is that no part of the so-called original kernel is exposed to users or even devs, no amount of digging resulted in Harmony OS leaving AOSP, IOW everything they found was AOSP, or AOSP with minimal modifications. At least try proving said kernel exists, the only way that would settle things, or else you're just another one of those Huawei trolls parroting Huawei propaganda, maybe even one of those behind the spamming of the previous articles.
