It was always meant relative to other iPhone 12 variants and also expectations. There were predictions it's going to be the best selling iPhone 12. I think mainly due to being the cheapest but MSRPs were significantly higher than predicted. However, looking at that table, it looks like the worst selling iPhone 12 is actually the Pro (the only one missing in that table). mini isn't far behind Pro Max and I believe it was released somewhat later. It could have the potential to fight for second place. Given those numbers, I think it's a solid performance and it would be strange if Apple axed it.

Apple has dominated a list of the most-shipped smartphones in 2020, with the iPhone 11 alone shipping 64.8 million units with an estimated value of around US$48.9 billion. Five iPhone models are in the top 10 list, joined by four Samsung Galaxy smartphones and a sole representative from Xiaomi in the form of the Redmi Note 9 Pro.
