There has always been rumors of having 4 threads per core on the next cpu architecture so maybe we get a 16C/64T cpu?

Also great a threadripper 16 core for home server with the extra pci lanes and memory lanes. Will get the cost down for homeserver and 16 core is enough for many and the lanes are welcome for extra hba cards, network card and maybe a videocard for transcoding.

Why not? Its just more economical binning process of the bad chips... Makes better use of the yields. Everybody wins.

If this is correct, I approve. Some people will want a Threadripper because they would like to attach both a video card and an accelerator card to their computer, not because they need more than 16 CPU cores. Also, four-channel memory doesn't hurt.

AMD may possibly bring back 16-core SKUs to the HEDT Threadripper lineup with the upcoming Threadripper 5000 series as indicated by a cryptic tweet from developer 1usmus. The 16-core Threadripper SKU, which may be called the TR 5955X, is likely to be similar to the mainstream Ryzen 9 5950X but with support for quad-channel RAM and additional PCIe lanes.
