4K display.. Why, Sony, why?!! Who needs that?

Same question was asked 5 years ago on why Sony use IP 65 and 68 for water and dust resistance  ;D Sometimes we can't see the future because we are not in tune with the industry, forgive ourselves. Have a nice day.

No one will care about Sony phones, because they will be announced at MWC but won't be available until July or August. By then no one cares.

The Japs are famous for their efficiency and punctuality. When it comes to Xperia phones, they behave like a backward third world country. Sad!

6.5" is screen size of entry lvl phones, flagships go with 6.7" now, and they got different ratio so even more screen space.
They should also bring at least 5x zoom or it will look like they cannot even win over old mid range phones.
Doesn't matter how pricy or cheap the phone will be if no one will want those specs.

What always amused me is why Sony supplies better camera modules to others and uses inferior ones in their own phones?
Sony tent to do cameras their way ... aka not good, not good at all (on mobile phones that is).
It will be interesting to see Sony push for a proprietary solution (their camera array with DRAMs) clashing with Snapdragon 888 philosophy of universally good ISP pipeline.
You can almost bet Sony Xperia 1 III would use only a fraction of what Snapdragon 888 will offer.
The sooner they drop an inferior solution the better ... like Google did in last gen with dropping ancient Neural Core.

Supposed specifications and the price for the Sony Xperia 1 III have leaked online. Unsurprisingly, a Snapdragon 888 processor is onboard and the 6.5-inch 5G smartphone allegedly boasts a 4K OLED panel and 120 Hz refresh rate. The reported price tag is US$1,199, which is the same as the Sony Xperia 1 II's launch price.
