Now if the IRS could just audit these scalpers, because you know they're not paying taxes on this extra income.

The issue is that this only hurts consumers. Nvidia & affiliates, newegg, bestbuy, ebay, etc. They all still make their profits and the scalpers even though they pay a lot up front will never be hurt or "die in a fire" as others comments have stated. At worst, they'll be able to sell for msrp and just make their money back; whereas at best they're doubling their money. It's disgusting and something most companies don't care to do anything about since they aren't affected profit wise.

"Fall victim" is not the words I'd choose. It's more that people with deep pockets or high limit credit cards are impatient and would rather reward scalper's and make things worse for everyone else.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 series, and the AMD Ryzen 5000 range have all fallen victim to scalping activities, with an analysis report detailing just how much profit scalpers are making from these new GPUs and CPUs. Sales of just the GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 have raked in over US$8 million profit for scalpers and eBay.
