This is like when a film has a female protagonist and it's so terrible that even with all the publicity stunts they barely make half of what they expected, and they just blame sexism and... voilá! Totally ignoring that other female protagonist movies have been hugely successful.
I think that people are starting to be fed up with general media shoving SJW BS down our throats.
Sad to see notebookcheck repeating general media's BS.

It was a solid 6/10 for me. Not a bad game by any means but not a great one either. It's just that the first Last of Us was a near perfect 10/10 that set a pretty high bar for any potential sequel.

And the general public as well as gamers who actually buy games out of their own pocket have never taken gaming journalism seriously. That's just the fact of the gaming community because the audience of those journalists are mostly represented by other journalists alike and people affiliated with game makers, not the public.

Speaking of, some digging will tell you that Metacritic has an extremely flawed rating and filtering system, so not really accurate at all. If my memory is correct, they apply the same system for film reviews to games, and haven't improved the ratings in recent years.

The whole premise of this article discounts that and lumps every criticism into the boat with sexists or whatever. That's disingenuous.

The article doesn't mention sexism, or propose that players didn't like playing as Abby because of sexism. Those are reasonable conclusions to draw, though - especially given how desperate sme people are to point to *any other possible reason*. 👀

Still win the GOTY...yeah, definitely not rigged. Anyway, TLOU2 is seen as the second coming of Christ by almost every games journalist out there, but hated by actual players

Yes, it must be "rigged". It can't be that the vast majority of critics and players loved it (most of whom will never leave a review), and a vocal minority of whining clowns decided to vent their spleens about how it's unfair that not everybody else on the planet wants exactly the same things from a game that they do. No, must be that to qualify as an "actual player" you have to have an irrational hatred for the game. Seems smart and logical.

Its objectively an example of terrible story telling, with numerous deus ex machina moments, odd charecter behaviour and a sense of gameyness thats so old fashioned it ruins the plot.

This is its problem, as a game its good mechanically but its mechanics as a game ruin the story its trying to tell. For example the use of boss battles makes no sense like Ellie being the usual Zelda boss you have to punch in the face three times to win with Abby.

Its a game that feels immature, like a edgelord teenager trying to tell a dark story but not understanding what makes a compelling story, the answers is not just more ott violence and upsetting scenes.

The game comes across like the violence porn of Saw or Hostel when really the developers wanted to make something as compelling as say Grave of the Fireflies.

I think to me its one of the most disappointing games of all time because its being held up by the gaming press as if its an example of the mediums maturity when really to me its a no better example of storytelling than a game from the 90s.

It feels childish when compared to proper literature because the story is fighting the fact the medium is a game.

If your primary sensation when reading a book is the turning of pages then it is obviously a poor book, and this game felt like a game where i was simply following the developers instructions.

The game is hated only by haters, actual players love it. TLOU2 has the highest completion rate among PS4 games.

I don't know anyone personally who cared about playing as a woman. Some people were annoyed they had to play as a bad character - didn't matter if that character was a woman, a man, a monkey, or a robot. She honestly wasn't fun to play as because when you first meet her, she is the antagonist. It was a narrative problem, not a problem with the character's gender. The whole premise of this article discounts that and lumps every criticism into the boat with sexists or whatever. That's disingenuous.

I hated that it made me play as Abby for that very reason... but then, having to play as her humanized her enough. It was like Jamie Lannister - I hated him until I didn't. Plus Abby's father could've cured the world and Joel's incredible selfishness scuttled that. When it was time to switch back to Ellie, the entire revenge quest seemed as fruitless as the writers intended. Add to that the graphics, the cinematic quality of the gameplay, the voice acting... it was a good game. I played it twice just like I did the original. That's all I really ask of a game.

Do they seriously can't differentiate between a game character and a real world person by throwing threats like those? Those are messed up people, or jerks.

I think that game is a story teller. Which story that you want to play, it should be up to you how you play it. Of course, it was very hard to code that kind of scripts - scripts that allow multiple choices to be made and its consequences.

TLOU2...
1) a game that divided the fanbase by a lot
2) User metacritic score of 5.7
3) tons of unsold copies in many stores Worldwide

Still win the GOTY...yeah, definitely not rigged. Anyway, TLOU2 is seen as the second coming of Christ by almost every games journalist out there, but hated by actual players

I wouldn't say it is hated by players, I like it, I even like it much better than the first game.

Metacritic user score really shows us it's weakness: firstly I am not sure how many people actually played the game and yet they rated the game badly. I like Steam in that regard, that you must own the game before you can rate it. Secondly, you can see that players rate with emotions rather with sense. Professional reviewer has to back up his verdict with some valid reason. A lot of bad reviews on Metacritic boils down to two reasons: Hurr, durr they killed my favourite character - worst game ever 0/10. Hurr, durr I have to play for girl which looks like a dude - worst game ever 0/10.

I really do not think it's fair to give this game 0/10 just for the fact that someone didn't like the story. It seems like everyone who downvoted the game forget it's technological marvel - graphics is one of the best for PS4 game; gameplay, animations and sound design is amazing; there are like 2 seconds loading times (!!!) and overall the game was in top notch technical state (which is still not guaranteed in 2020).

Naughty Dog could play it on safe side and make the story same, but different, but still the same. Yes, someone, somewhere would complain that is essentialy still the same, but generally everyone would be happy.

I respect Naughty Dog that they didn't do it. They had courage to burn half the stuff thay built in first game in the first hour of game. They had courage to tell the story from the perspective of antagonist. They had courage to do things differently this time. I get it, a lot of people didn't like this, but it's unfair to downvote (0/10) the game for this single reason.

And saying that voting is rigged just because it isn't in alignment with my opinion is like Trump saying that presidential elections were fraud because he didn't win.

The Last of Us Part II won seven categories at The Game Awards 2020, including the Game of the Year and Best Narrative titles. Although the title has been beset with criticism from some gamers angry at playing as Abby, the actress who voiced the character, Laura Bailey, won a Best Performance Game Award for her role.
