How the hell is this budget?! NO computer should be coming with 4GB of RAM these days, at least not for more than $300. 8GB should be the minimum and 16GB should be much more common than it is. 4GB is barely enough to run Windows and a few programs, and anyone that it's enough for would probably be better served with a tablet or Chromebook, since they're probably only using it for email and light web browsing.

And as has been pointed out, releasing this with Ice Lake instead of Ryzen or Tiger, especially at these prices...what a joke. I refuse to ever buy MS again, though that doesn't even matter since I wouldn't waste money on these crap offerings anyway.

So $1000 for even a semi-reasonable configuration, little to no upgradability, too-small display, and Ice Lake processors when everyone's excited by Ryzen 4000 or Tiger Lake. What a fail.

Well was looking to get a nice laptop for a decent price, guess Microsoft blew that sale. Looks like I will be going with a lenovo flex 5. Not even $100 more and I can get a ryzen with 16 gb ram in it. Just all around a better deal.

I'm already certain I will buy either ryzen like 4800U, or some 35W version.
Only 11th gen from Intel can compare.

No i7 or Ryzen 7 option?  Bummer.  I'd hit this if it had a more powerful option.  Based on Laptop 3 pricing, i7's add about $100 to the configuration.  I'd pay $1299 for an i7 with 16GB/256GB.  But without an i7, it's not on my radar.   :(

The pricing of the 12.5-inch Surface Laptop has leaked ahead of the device's expected announcement next month. Apparently Microsoft's budget answer to the regular Surface Laptop series, the 12.5-inch will start at US$699.99 with 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage and a Core i5-1035G1 processor Prices will rise to US$1,199.99, but that Ice Lake CPU will be equipped across all SKUs.
