Right Now, AMD uses above 20W idle power use while intel uses less than 5W. This is going to be worse???????? Yes, Higher IPC only benefits when your clock is lower...

zen 4 is main thing to watch, ddr5 means double bandwith. even zen+ is seen choking for bandwidth and scale well with ram clock. For dual channel zen architecture ddr5 will be blessing.also EPYC quad socket quad SMT which will mean 32 channel RAM ddr5 will be a supercomputer in tower form factor, i am really curious to see(offcourse can't buy for few more years)

agreed but i think after zen 4 they're gonna go back to their old ways, at least until intel can catch up.
I think that would be a bad idea. Intel is planning a hard comeback around that time period. Unless they suffer another mishap in manufacturing, it would be a bad time to ease up. Not to mention that Intel is still the Goliath in this game. There is still plenty of market share for AMD to grab. The more distance they can put between them, the better. And I doubt they want to sell so cheap forever. The bigger the lead, the higher they can go with their prices without negatively affecting growth.

Well, Zen is where Core used to be in its beginnings. As time passes and the design gets more and more refined, progress gets more difficult. Intel got unlucky with their manufacturing (remember, unlike AMD, they don't just design, they also manufacture the silicon and so they have to excel in both areas) plus they underestimated the value of processors with many cores.

By the time zen 3 parts launch, comet lake will be replaced by rocket lake parts which will use willow cove core and that will have similar ipc to Zen 3.
Sure, with worse efficiency, less cores and probably lower frequency since it will be still made on 14nm process

now that is what i am liking about AMD this time.they are not sleeping unaware, like intel in pre zen era, and yesteryear AMD during athlon era, with thinking that competition is dead. Despite supremacy they are moving ahead and competing with themself. And thats required because intel now got Jim keller and kadouri both. Any time they can hit back. You know Intel was not able to keep with athlon and opeteron despite better mfg node that time because  Jim Keller was with AMD.

Engineering samples of the Ryzen 4000 desktop CPUs have been rumored to perform better than expected, with single thread IPC gains higher than the planned 15-17% improvements. Certain OEM engineers who managed to test these early samples suggest that AMD may be on the verge of beating Intel's Comet Lake-S models even in games.
