Lenovo has seriously dropped the ball with this slim 7 release

Reveal was in 1st of JANUARY!!!!! yes over 4 months ago and it's not looking likely we will ever see this even though a few people in china have received their YOGA 14S

They continue to release ugly low quality display laptops with ryzen 4000 such as the ideapad 5 and thinkpad but i think due to intel pay offs they are not allowed to release anything above a 4700u YET...

Amd should have rolled out their entire 4000 series mobile chips by now. They have been teased for so long...they are just giving intel a chance to catch up. Very stupid imo. At this rate the none of major laptop lines(MacBook, surface, xps, thinkpad) will get them before tiger lake, maybe never get amd.

The article says in one of the pictures: "Lenovo will sell the Yoga Slim 7 as the IdeaPad 5 14 in some regions.".

Afaik this is incorrect. In Lenovo's PSREF database, they have 2 separate specs, confusingly with same codename at the end:

- Ideapad 5 14ARE05
- Yoga Slim 7 14ARE05

The ideapad is derived from the S540-14, while the Yoga is derived from S740 in terms of build quality and casing.

FYI, the Yoga Slim 7 has other names in some regions; China: Yoga 14s, US: Ideapad Slim 7.

What is unique to the Yoga Slim 7 compared to the Ideapad 5 14 and 15 inch; the Slim 7 has a native USB C charge port.

@A Ryzen 4000 laptops are just becoming available now. What makes you think that it'll come anytime sooner next year? Realistically we'll see it by April 2021.

Ryzen 4000 was released in January 2020. It was suppose to be in first laptops in February 2020. It got delayed to March for first laptops due to Coronavirus.

Unless there is another outbreak next year, there is little reason to delay the next gen. Even more so since AMD probably wants to widen their lead while they have the chance.

I get it, but I'm looking for a 13/14 inch laptop with a decent screen, ideally a convertible.  The only option I'm seriously considering right now is the HP Envy x360 with the 4700u, waiting on reviews.  Beyond that I'm seeing nothing worthwhile.

If it's mid summer before a decent Ryzen laptop comes along, I'm fine waiting a few more months for tiger lake in premium laptops like the Spectre x360, Dell XPS 2in1, and Yoga C950.

The yoga slim 7 is the international branded US version of the ideapad slim 7 (former S7*0 series).
Internationally there is Yoga clamshell version or the convertible which was denoted as C7** series, which is also the US convertible series.

I'm also waiting for the tiger lake cpus. They will be far more interesting than ice lake is.

@Pablo240 - Tiger lake won't be out until Q4. And with complete redesign GPU, how stable the drivers will be is questionable. And shortly after Tiger lake, Ryzen 5000 will most likely be released.

Aka, it's an endless game of waiting if you always want to have the best thing.

@pablo240 there is 4800u in Lenovo ideapad 15

The US version (IdeaPad 7) appears to come with the 4700u with no option for the 4800u.  Currently there are no machines in sight that sport the 4800u here.

I've been excited about these new Ryzen processors but by the time it shows up in a machine I'm interested in, I'll be eyeing up tiger lake laptops that aren't far behind.

The AMD Ryzen 7 4800U and Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 have been flexing their muscles again, this time outscoring 45 W Intel processors in Geekbench. The Ryzen 7 4800U blows away recent Intel U series processors too, including the Core i7-10710U and Core i7-1065G7.
