3. It's narrower than both the Pixel 3a and Galaxy S10e, both of which are considered compact
...
5. Someone on the market for a mid-range, smaller-sized Android phone would consider this
You've got to be joking. Width isn't a defining characteristic of a compact phone because it was never a problem in smaller phones. All compact phones are on the narrow end. Width became a problem as phones got taller and taller. That's when they started stretching aspect ratio of displays to keep the width in check. This thing is almost as tall as Galaxy S20+. There is nothing compact about it. You can call it narrow (easier to grip with smaller hands), but not compact. SE 2 is about 2 cm shorter. That's about two phone sizes. And even that is, IMHO, too big to be a proper compact. Compact Xperias were about 3 cm shorter than this, first SE was even smaller. They grew towards the end, especially the XZ2 made a jump, but was still smaller than SE 2.

About the only thing it has in common with the SE is the price. In that sense, it's a competitor. Otherwise: It's much taller (less pocket friendly), the display is tall and hence isn't single thumb friendly, it's not an iPhone and the performance won't bear comparison.
I admit that modern full size smartphones are an issue for the pockets of most womenswear, but some already have full sized pockets(they're generally advertised as a feature, or you could do a little modification yourself, it's very easy modifying a pocket), and everybody has coats. It's not otherwise an issue.

How is this an alternative to the compact iPhone SE?

Disgusting clickbait title. Have some standards maybe?

Especially considering the legendary Compact line. What a trash.

1. It's priced similarly
2. It's made by a well-known brand
3. It's narrower than both the Pixel 3a and Galaxy S10e, both of which are considered compact
4. Sony hasn't made a Compact flagship in two years. The Xperia 5 II may be it, but those are mainly just rumors
5. Someone on the market for a mid-range, smaller-sized Android phone would consider this

Thanks for the comment, though. Top-notch stuff.

What's not to like...ok...considering this is Sony and the Xperia 1II's price is way up there, this probably runs on an outdated SD6 series at best with midrange MTK a high possibility and SD4 series not out of the question. Dimensity would be a pleasant surprise though, and not completely ruled out.

Snapdragon 665. Not great, not awful.
So year-old SD6, acceptable for the price.
