Certainly! Lower price for lesser product would be even better.
On the other hand, Exynos is probably the only real competition to Snapdragon - so Samsung trying to develop better SOC is not bad in terms of "SOC monopoly".

It would be a smart step to do this.
They managed to p*** a lot of users this generation, but they have a small time window to iron out bugs in the new Exynos for Note 20.
They certainly won't catch up with Snapdragon, but they cetainly have a lot of room for improvement over Exynos 990.

The Exynos 990 used on the global Galaxy S20 phones has come under fire for poor sustained performance and efficiency, and it would seem that Samsung plans to ditch it. The South Korean company is reportedly working on a 6nm Exynos 992 for its next flagship phone, the Galaxy Note 20.
