update for the second hand market, apart from the screen and the samsung 861 ssd its rubbish.

Yet again the screen digitizer is on the blink sometimes it crashes 30 times a day requiring a reboot sometimes just a few times a day. Put windows 11 PRO ON SAME RESULT!

Deffo the digitizer though, screen wont wake up from sleep even though its set to do so, it still has 18 months on-site warranty on it but surly you would think HP would have sorted the screen issues by now, the laptop gets mega hot just doing simple tasks if you ask it to do much else get the fireman ready, could just be a faulty unit plus went through 3 hp official chargers in first 8 months bought an aftermarket one still going strong.

Only great thing is HP UK has been fantastic so far no-complaints about customer services or their next day tech guys.

I had the G2 with the 7200u and it had the same performance in bench tests as this 8265u this one throttles at 88% cpu where the G2 never and I cant figure it out.
This G4 has no ability to max out the cpu which is weird if I undervolt it still throttles at 88%
Thermals never gets more than warm which is even more weird still, screen on bog stard is twice as bright and ssd is around 50% faster, raw performace on my geekbench 4 = 4450 single 13,000 multicore geekbench 5 1009 single 3250 multicore which is around the same as the i7 I just thimk a bios update to stop the throttling would turn this into a gem. OK its a business laptop not a workstation but at £1600 they need to give us all the performance it can handle and 12% under cpu for me is a deal breaker as userbench bench has the G2 i5 cuffing it by 5% and is only a dual core vs this quadcore which is mega weird oh well it is a better product seems better built with much better sound output and pen works better to so all good.

The HDD can be replaced quite easily. 1TB 970Pro comes to mind, to boost the overall performance quite significantly, as I have done, compared to the Western Digital HDD that my laptop came with. I know that HP uses various HDD manufacturers - sometimes you get Samsung OEM SSD HDD, most of the times you do not, which is a shame for the price they charge. WD lags in performance, even when compared to Samsung OEM PM961 and PM981.

Also, the RAM is most of the time Samsung RAM, but sometimes they use Nanya chips - again, resulting in a performance hit.

The WiFi card is firmly soldered to the PCB / motherboard.

The CPU can be "repasted" very easily with a good heatsink compound. I used arctic silver, resulting in around 4-5 deg C less heat.

Overall, it is a good laptop, in particular -> its sturdy built. Just make sure you'll be getting Samsung SSD and RAM, if you decide to buy one.

This is the third one we bought for us. All running with HP docks with zero issues.

Also
QuoteUsers can then exchange the SSD and the Wi-Fi module. RAM is firmly soldered on, however.

However, the image right next to that line clearly shows the WiFi module soldered to the board. The removable wireless card is a Cellular/LTE data card, which doesn't do WiFi (though I suppose some 5G cards might do a strange form of it - it's still not the same as the soldered WiFi card in the upper left hand corner of that image).

The HP EliteBook x360 G4 is based on its predecessor but offers a rather interesting touchscreen. It has a matte surface, but is very difficult to read due to HP's screen protection technology. Find out what else the convertible has to offer in our review.
