AMD so far has only embedded APUs that would meet the bill: R1102G 6W (Single channel??? Won't go far...) or the R1305G which would be the best choice but already uses 8W up to 10W which is way too much for a passive cooling in a Go size. So... no AMD unless AMD makes a 5-6W R1305G.

Seems odd that AMD doesn't try to go 7nm and 5W TDP (surface go) and 12W (surface pro passive)...

It's a little disappointing.

Too bad ARM is ludicrously expensive and AMD...

wait, AMD already has new chips in this area. So unless if Intel is giving away these chips (and I doubt they are, given it's 14nm), I don't see why Microsoft would stick with these ancient and outdated Intel chips.

My pie in the sky dream: MSFT is planning a light refresh of the X86 Surface Go to coincide with an ARM-based Surface Go. That way, both options remain viable. Hopefully MSFT doesn't go crazy and reduce battery size.

The Surface Go 2 has been spotted again, confirming previous rumours about the upcoming tablet. Rumoured to be launching this season, Microsoft will equip the device with at least Intel Core m3-8100Y and Pentium Gold 4425Y processors. 3DMark has not confirmed this time whether LTE options are on their way, but it is doubtful that at least relatively new processors are, at any rate.
