Terrible color coverage
Hot as hell D part - 60 degree Celcius would surely burn you if you put it on your lap.
Small battery - T480s is physically smaller than T490, with similar upgradablility, but equipped with a 57whr battery, compared to the tiny 50whr of T490.
Poor performance - T480s w/ dGPU gets 6xx cb in R15 when only CPU is under load, and a consistent 7xx with undervolting. They are basically on par with each other, till you realize that T490 got 6c12t when T480s have only 4c8t. Getting an i7 on T490 would not help much, because of the crappy thermal design.

What a crappy "business" line product.
It's T480s, but worse. The only one thing that's better is the low power 400 nit FHD option. But even so you have to be fortunate to get one with reasonable response time.

I think the hexacore msi prestige 14 should be a benchmark for all other high end 14" notebooks. It's cheaper than the t490, lighter, higher performance, and better screen.

Smarpthone for poor peoples have 95%+ sRGB!
Proof link:
notebookcheck.net/Xiaomi-Redmi-8-Smartphone-Review-Xiaomi-s-budget-phone-sets-new-standards.450943.0.html

Cost for this smartphone for poor people on Ali - 100-120$!

Shame for Lenovo and another greedy manufactures who installed shame and afwul "IPS" with shame <60% sRGB (45-46% NTSC) in laptops from 600$!

It and BIG SHAME for Lenovo as it crap installed in T series for $1100+!

Only LG IPS is Flicker Free!
BOE/Innolux/Chimei - not Flicker Free.
AUO Panels randomly have VCOM defects (techmind.org/lcd/index.html#inversion)

In 2020 default panel for laptops starting from $800-900 should be at least TRUE 4k(not pentile and rgbw!) with 74%+ NTSC and 400+ nit!

Even laptops for $500 must have at least one full TB3.0 port, as 2 ports of them are built-in in SoC from  Intel "Ice Lake"  and the cost of their PHY hardware is cheap.

The minimum Wi-Fi chip must be Intel AX201 ($7 only in retail)! Because AX is already integrated in Intel Ice Lake!

RAM should be 8GB from the factory with at least one slot(or soldered, but it BAD). Plus no lower than DDR4 3200.

How can the 400MHz cpu clock drop be acceptable even for a short period??

It should drop to 2GHz at the most, not any lower!

This has now been going on from T480 to T490. Seriously something must be done to this ridiculous thermal throttling!!

Also, this whole PWM screen thing needs to disappear. I can't believe such concoctions actually exist in 2020. Especially in top tier products.

I've recently had the "privilege" of working on a PWM-screened laptop, and after few days my eyes were back in the 1990s. I literally felt the same pains I had back then (with CRT screens) that I thought I'd never feel again!
Hell, I'd rather have the motion blur ghosting of 2000s LCDs over this cr@p anyday!

I actually used to think people are overreacting over this issue, but apparently, I just haven't yet been exposed to a pwm screen...

FUCKING 61% sRGB

this shouldn't even exist on mid range IPS panels

lenovo is shooting themselves in the head by including this panel with s*** colors

this TN panel (N156HGE-EAL) has much better colors for the same price of that s*** panel

If the Thinkpad team can't find anything to do, at least make the screen 16:10, instead of reducing the battery size and then charging a premium to expect people to upgrade.

Lenovo is refreshing its ThinkPad T490 one last time before the impending launch of the ThinkPad T14. The update is so minor, however, that you can opt for last year's ThinkPad T490 or just wait for the ThinkPad T14 instead without missing all that much.
