I don't get the purple powder argument, does any hinge keep fine particles out? I always thought the design was to prevent debris from jamming the hinge's movement, not to prevent intrusion.
Has this even been tested on ancient flip phones? Those are yet easier to seal (and I still don't think they could prevent all dust ingression) while folding screens are essentially one face of a cuboid that changes shape during usage， all but preventing an effective seal with the other faces rigid.

Samsung's second-generation foldable phone was launched along with claims that the OEM had made some strides in keeping this form-factor clear of potentially destructive dust and debris. A new video by teardown specialists iFixit may have called this into question with a colorful experiment. It shows that fine dust is more than capable of finding its way into the device.
