AMD's Radeon RX 5500M graphics card is making its way to the MSI Alpha 15 gaming laptop. The Alpha 15 is the first laptop to feature AMD's new Navi GPU, and it'll also be equipped with the Ryzen 7 3750H processor. The laptop will also support AMD's FreeSync variable refresh rate technology for a more fluid gaming experience.

MSI is calling this the world's first 7nm gaming laptop, and it'll feature a 15.6-inch 1,920 x 1,080-pixel IPS-level display with support for 120Hz, 144Hz, or 240Hz refresh rates. The company stopped short of detailing the exact memory and storage configurations, but the laptop will take up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM and have a single M.2 SSD socket that supports both SATA and PCIe devices and a 2.5-inch HDD bay
MSI is offering two versions of the Alpha 15. The Alpha 15 A3DDK will offer a micro SD card slot and a 240Hz refresh rate, while the Alpha 15 A3DD will have the full-sized SD card reader and a more modest 144Hz refresh rate. In addition, the A3DDK ships with the SteelSeries-designed keyboard with per-key RGB backlighting by default, while the A3DD will offer a choice between that and a keyboard with single-colour red backlighting.

Both laptops are equipped with a 51Wh battery, which is a little on the small side.

Basic design error: the battery is in the hottest part of the case, surrounded by radiators and cooling pipes. Not only shortens the battery life, but could be potentially dangerous. The designers (and the reviewer) appear to lack basic understanding of good laptop engineering practices.

Well one of them exhausts to the side... both of them shoudl have though... this would have been pulling cool air past the batter, also an external battery that snaps on is always preferable to me especially as it cn double as stand to increase ventilation.

would anyone recommend the device with 36 decibel at idle to a friend?

The all-AMD team in the Alpha 15 runs all current games smoothly onto the device's matte, FHD, IPS, 144 Hz and FreeSync compatible 15.6-inch screen. However, its comparatively high power requirements take their toll.
