Why all the negativity??
This thing is revolutionary!
Might it be there are a bunch of apple & Samsung owners out there who just spat out nearly $2K for their thing, an here comes little ol' Xiaomi dropping a phone on the market that basically turns their phones into doorstops, paperweights, toilet paper et al.?
I just took hold of the Redmi Note 8 Pro for $300US, and while it doesn't pack the punch of the lastest mainstream phones, it does, however, carry with it  the first phone to release a 64MP camera. It was packaged and retailed wi a 64MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP rear camera and a 32MP front camera, and that has pretty much stopped my visits to the Play Store and thankfully halted my spending on stupid apps & games. It also introduced me to spending my time with the camera and I no longer needed my PHONE to perform like the rocketship R9 3950X 18/36 that just gave anything Intel has on offer, or even planned an R9 powered kick in the balls.

If I had the money to burn the 108MP Xiaomi would be in my pocket asap, in the pocket of my leather pants while I cruise through the city in my 1200hp 1973 Porsche 917/30 Spyder, occasionally swapping it for my ridiculously expensive and incredibly huge fully kitted Hummer!

Why be downers? If you had money to burn, I'm certain you too would purchase by one and we could then go cruising through the city together!

Why indeed!?
It's way too expensive, which will make it too much of a niche to be relevant. It also doesn't prove much of anything, since given the price point you can do anything (even the galaxy fold is cheaper)

Was waiting for this to retire the current Nexus 5x, will have to keep waiting or budge for the one plus :/

I only see buyers eventually using the front screen for everything, and maybe one of the edges for notifications.
It makes a little sense used in a dual-app setting, however we have multiple regular dual screen models for that already, and in this case the back screen is too narrow for many apps.

Now the only question left to answer becomes why?

Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Mi Mix Alpha which is undeniably one of the most breathtaking smartphone designs we've ever seen. Instead of using a flexible AMOLED display to create a foldable, the company has used the same technology to create a super futuristic looking device with a wraparound screen.
