It has the same SoC as the (wonderful) RP2+, an extra gig of RAM, and twice as many pixels onscreen. I'm not convinced it's a significant enough upgrade for me. I know it's hard to find more performant SoC's in this space, but I can't help but be a little disappointed.

Go for the Odin then.

I've got one, but still ordered the RP3, as it'll do as a more portable handheld.

Being able to upgrade to 3gb of ram is nice and all, but I really would have thought they would pack in at least a little more horsepower for the next numbered iteration.

I've been eyeballing a lot of the portables, but I'm waiting for an affordable one that will handle all of my Dreamcast emulation near 100% (PS2 would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath for that). I'm honestly surprised to say that the Retroid Pocket 3 still ain't it. Ah well.

The RP2+ already handles Dreamcast very well. This new device has the same SoC, but it's flashed with Android 11 which is much more efficient than Android 9 (although 11 favors more RAM - thus the 3gb option). They're claiming 20-30% performance increase simply due to the OS. If true, this would put the RP3 into solid GameCube, light PS2 territory.

Retroid has announced and started accepting pre-orders for the Pocket 3, a 4.7-inch gaming handheld that looks like the Nintendo Switch Lite. Available from US$119, the Retroid Pocket 3 will start shipping later this month with up to 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, among other features.
