I am very picky about input devices - they are the CORE of the experience. That keyboard will be hard to accept, prone to dust and things spilling in between the keys too. But the touchpad is the biggest disappointment for casual use - without physical clicky buttons separate from the touch area, I never buy any laptops. Also for gamers, no DisplayPort, no G-Sync. Warranty is also just 1 year. No great speakers is OK, can't have them at such thinness. OMG wow it has Hello IR webcam too!! Would've gotten it if they made a better touchpad and keyboard.

I went for the Lenovo Legion Y740 17 inch 9th Gen model.
I actually own this laptop and I have to say that this can't be more inaccurate. First of all, a 17 inch laptop is 100% not in the same class as this one. You can't compare it because they are made for different things. (size, portability, battery life) The Mag-15 is very well built, the chassis is very sturdy, and lightweight, there is little flex in the body paneling of the computer thanks to its magnesium contruction, which allows it to be lighter AND sturdier than an equivalent laptop made with aluminum. the finish of the laptop feels great, and it doesn't attract fingerprints, unlike many aluminum laptops. The keyboard feels amazing, way better than regular laptop keyboards (this is a highly polarizing topic, you either hate it or love it). I personally love the tactile feedback and increased key travel. G-Sync is useless on 144hz screens as its benifits are mostly seen at lower framerates, Lack of displayport offset by the presence of a Thunderbolt 3 port. Laptops with seperate buttons feel outdated and horrible, requiring two hands to operate the trackpad. You should probably buy an older thinkpad if you want that kind of trackpad layout. Your thinking is very outdated as having an old styled trackpad with seperate buttons would be listed as a CON and not a PRO. The trackpad itself feels very good.

When you get around to reviewing it, assuming they let you, make sure you put it up against the MSI GS65, because outside of the larger battery, it sounds pretty much identical.   It would be wonderful if they were beating the MSI price though.

I find it funny that people are still using gaming laptops and input devices / keyboard / build quality in the same sentence.

Just buy a business laptop + eGPU.

The only consumer laptops worth recommending are those $300 chromebooks for your grandma. Partly because you don't need amazing build quality when they are already so lightweight and at such a price range you can't really complain too much about keyboard either.

I can't really fault people for not knowing. The blame should really be put on review sites for reviewing so much trash just for the $$$ (adclick revenue). It's also partially the fault of companies that make the business laptops. If they just sold them at local retail brick and mortar stores, I don't think anyone would even be looking at gaming laptops or macbooks in the first place. It's as if almost they don't want people to see or buy them...?
You get diminishing returns past 1060 with an eGPU, with even less to gain if you feed the output back to the integrated display.
Some gaming laptops also have respectable build quality like the Blades, which as you probably know have been recently used as a base for workstations (the Studio editions).

I brought a very similar TongFang laptop from PC specialist in the UK. And I have to say I am a very happy customer. It is very similar to the MAG 15, also thin and light but with only a 46wh battery. Always have to be very close to a power socket.

The problem with TongFang is that it is highly dependent on reseller. Some resellers are very good at quality control, e.g. XMG, pc specialist, etc. Some are not so so. Make sure always buy from a reputable reseller.

Sounds...quite a bit cheaper than Razer.

I had a 15" tongfang laptop few months back with similar design, a white box laptop that all these companies like eluktronics/cyberpower rebrands. This is clearly another tongfang. The keyboard on mine died when I was just moving it to a new apartment, boxed up not even using it. Turns out it wasn't a simple keyboard swap since the MOTHERBOARD inexplicably needed to be replaced and the repairs took over a month. The build quality was chintzy with rough edges, unevenness, flex, large seams, a very cheap feeling rubber coating, and constantly popping hinge covers on a hinge that could probably break just by starting at it the wrong way. The keyboard was also mechanical but felt very cheap, thin, wobbly, and wholly unsatisfying.

This looks like much of the same. Intel may have helped with thermal design but everything else is classic tongfang. Thin, cheap, and even more breakable with the super flimsy magnesium. The price isn't amazing either. Go get an asus or even a lenovo for leagues better build quality and far better put together package at the same price. All these generic and custom built white box laptops have the worst quality. They are only good as an option for those behemoth laptops with desktop grade parts, not as actual laptops you can take with you or rely on.
Without first hand experience with either I say this sounds worse than Hasee.

Thanks to a full-magnesium chassis, the Mag-15 gaming laptop developed by Intel in collaboration with Eluktronics is the lightest and thinnest on the market right now. It also comes with one of the largest 94 Whr batteries and the cooling system ensures the best thermal performance to date. Powered by the i7-9750H CPU, the Mag-15 also integrates up to 64 GB of DDR4-2666 RAM, up to 2 TB NVMe SSD storage and up to an RTX 2070 Max-Q GPU, all for considerably lower prices compared to established brands.
