What bullshit? Even I go to rutracker.org or Library Genesis when I need something (though I used Google Translate first to understand the menu). The collection and organization of material there always amazes me - in my home country I have to pay high prices to get information I need (a book, a music piece, movie, whatever), whereas in Russia every citizen has access to it for free, since that's the social norm.

Internet censorship in Russia? Lol, they have the most liberal net authority on the planet. Russian web basically became the #1 go-to place for piracy, dark-web acitvities or DDOS server hire worldwide.

Speaking of censorship and human rights. If I look for a guide on making bombs online, I can go to jail. UE country, theoretically free, software piracy rate quite high, but some shitty laws like this. It's not about "how to blow up a politician" searches. Let's say I want to make an in-house bomb to blow up some rodents who are messing up my farm.

At last, there is a problem: for many people, reaching 5000 bucks a month is only a dream. For those who reached that value, at least for some, there's always the need for more - more refined drinks, more expensive companionship, caviar, and so on. Too bad that, in the end, nobody cares if you are the richest in the cemetery...

I totally @Sliderpro: I got it very well. See what I just wrote above in my reply to Cristian. In Romania there are some attempts at Internet censorship as well from the government officials who are really afraid of the truth. Sure, free Internet can be used to wage a hybrid war as well, but when we are talking about corrupt politicians, the truth is the worst thing that can be found on the internet thanks to the efforts of independent journalists.
Imo internet isolation is a red flag to whoever wants to live decent life. No sense to do it otherwise. I believe if government doesnt protect basic human rights such as freedom of speech and restricts access to information, they definitely do not work in the favour of citizens. Well. Not much we can do about it. I guess it is Soviet legacy - people go completely mad at a prospect of becoming rich by whatever means without single care about millions of other people. I just dont get why somebody sane needs more than 5000$/month. Reminds me of a middle age, where only few chosen people could read and other "lived happily without this". Kinda same path.

@Codrut Nistor I partly agree with 'disconnecting from the global internet' with the following mention: build an infrastructure to isolate the strategic objectives (transportation, hospitals, etc.)

It makes no sense to disconnect all the home users. viruses and hacks are not breaking news anymore for home users, so this sounds fishy to me.

Maybe I am being overzealous sometimes, but what the government is trying to to is what I would have done if I were a dictator and wanted total control over internet :)
I totally agree with you, but given how smartphones and other connected devices owned by the average Joe can be used to hack into a lot of things, the dictator would have a perfect excuse for leaving everyone "internet-free".

I live in Russia and its easy to understand the horror of being cut from global internet. This will destroy all means of progress, as internet contains vast masses of usefull information, tech, entertainment, etc. Regardless of "cyber attacks" or whatever propaganda crap, government can just cut THIER network from global internet, not EVERYBODY'S, which makes sense. We basically go north korean route. It makes no sense to me to live in a country without global internet. This perspective is so horrifying to modern person, that I cant even describe it. Again, it is horrifying because it makes no sense. This is direct war against russian people and a step to 2000x, where internet and computers were not wide spread. No photoshop, no computer online games, no instagram blogs, no communication with friends in US and Europe, no pictures in google, no deviantart, no smartphone reviews, no books, nothing.
I wish they teleport themselves to mars if they so desire isolation
While I don't support censorship, in this case - if a serious attack is carried out against a certain country, it is very hard to separate government/vital IT infrastructure from the public devices. In most countries, the military uses an intranet separated from the outside world. However, the military personnel and civilians working in/near the bases can use their own phones. Hack them, and you can get at least some useful information, although you will probably fail in hacking your way into the intranet through those devices. Obviously, in the end it is probably only about censorship as you say, but this poison can be delivered assorted with a lot of solid/reasonable reasons to back it up.
You don't get it, it is not government/military/service private network, which is ok, the whole country will be cut from global internet. Its basically a Chinese iron curtain, except russia is not China. It is basically a network to email your friends, call a taxi, get some pizza and watch some patriot movies how america sucks, because nothing more will be allowed.  Which is year 2004. This will immediately destroy any sort of chance to become better country, because we will in a matter of several years fall behind in science, culture, business, entertainment, education and pretty much, this is GG. Its better to wash dishes somewhere in Italy, than to live in a country without internet, computer games, books, photoshop, instagram, etc then doing science for food.

Internet-"free" my a**! No, it's called internet-starved, internet-denied, or anything else that's the opposite of "free".

Working together with all major internet providers in the country, Russian authorities are planning an interesting - and quite disturbing - experiment that involves disconnecting all local users from the internet. The purpose of this experiment is to get feedback and maybe provide modifications to a law proposed back in December 2018.
