When I look for a tablet to buy nowadays I have low trust in a manufacturer's claims. Cheap Android devices often have worse hardware than advertised and sometimes the firmware is modified to lie to the user. CPU type, display resolution, storage space could be reported wrong. Given pictures of the device would show an edge-to-edge screen when in fact there is a thick bezel. When firmware lies I find that using multiple different benchmark programs may reveal discrepant reporting, and trying to fill up RAM and storage space may find they are actually less than expected.

In this case, I am glad to read a hands-on review of the device.

I am concerned by the very slow app launch performance you mentioned--that would make a device completely unusable for me, and would bring me doubt about the manufacturer's honesty. The Helio X27 is supposed to be a high-end chip. Notebookcheck calls it upper mainstream, and it was introduced in 2018. In your benchmarks, this tablet scores higher than a Galaxy S8, Nexus 6, and Google Pixel. Yet you subjectively find that it has low performance?

I see in other video reviews the mixed performance. Apps do sometimes launch very quickly but, say, the touchscreen has terrible registration. For this reason I could believe that the CPU, etc, is supplied as advertised, but there is something very wrong. It is disturbing that one can buy a device with a high-end CPU that fails to perform as expected.

I would also like to highlight that the GPS claim was false in your case and I would like a more critical look at the screen bezels. The pictures in this article using a black background make it very difficult to tell how thick they are.

The Chuwi HiPad retails for around $200 USD with compelling specifications such as its 1200p touchscreen, deca-core Helio X27 SoC, 3 GB RAM, and Android 8.0 software. Actual performance, however, is still reflective of the super-budget category.
