My M17xR4 is still going strong after over 4 years of heavy usage, no need for upgrade just yet, perhaps will do that when Volta GPUs arrive sometime in 2018...
I must admit though that this new line looks promising, who knows  :)

Alienware completely redesigned the cases for their new GTX 10xx models, this is probably why the delay. Now it all depends on pricing - other vendors decided to increase prices well above the difference between old and new GPUs. If Dell marketing plays it smart, they have the winners.

Shortly? Haha. MSI and Asus announced their laptops immediately after gtx10XX launch.    :)

Alienware introduces new gaming notebooks at the convention PAX West. The manufacturer completely redesigned its mobile lineup and one main aspect was the cooling performance. The new devices will be shipped on September 30th, and the smaller Alienware 13 will be available about 4 weeks later.
