It's been a full year with my L440. Got it used, from my father in law. Instantly I upgraded the 5400 rpm HDD for a HyperX 256 GB SSD. A month later, upgraded to 12GB RAM and later to full 16GB RAM. Upgraded the panel to FHD, 1920x1080. Most of the days I use also an external monitor, from 19" VGA to 27" HDMI via a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. I'm a sysadmin, so I use this thing everyday with Ubuntu 20.04. It has only an i3 processor (Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4000M CPU @ 2.40GHz) and it is by far the best laptop I ever owned (after using HP, Dell, Toshiba and Fujitsu). Yes, battery is not the best point, I barely use the trackpad since I use a gaming mouse, and I don't use Windows, so your mileage my vary. All I can say is: It fulfills my daily needs by far.

Also, having the maintenance manual is a big plus for me, also the amazing community at Reddit.

I have been using this laptop for 2 years; the minute I got it the volume was not working correctly. Sent it back & they "fixed" it only not really, it comes & goes & can be barely audible or regular.
Now after 2 years more issues; the battery does not hold a charge for longer than 1 hour, yes I could buy another one but annoying. When it was new the battery life was 3-5 hours.
The touchpad can get shady, not activating or jumping around or getting stuck.
The newest is the wifi adapter keeps getting disconnected, so far the troubleshooter fixes it, but today it took 5 tries.

I was looking at this model just recently as I wanted something with a long battery life. I noticed a couple things that weren't mentioned in the review. First, the battery in the review, the 57++, is actually the 9-cell upgraded battery. The laptop comes with a 6-cell 56 Wh battery, and the 9-cell is an additional charge. Considering that the Lenovo website claims that the 6-cell battery is good for 12 hours on one charge, the performance of 11 hours on the 9-cell 100 Wh battery in this review is actually an abysmal result. This laptop doesn't appear to get anywhere near the battery life that Lenovo claims. Second, the laptop comes with a slot that will take a decent-sized M2 SSD card, and several people online have apparently already shown that you can boot from it on this laptop. This essentially gives you much of the speed and power saving of a SSD (HDD spin ups should be infrequent) combined with the additional storage of a HDD.

Also, to address one of the other comments, the L440 is actually one of the relatively rare laptops on the market to in fact be "Ubuntu Certified". So by all accounts, this laptop should work perfectly with Ubuntu.

Worst Laptop i have ever used, handover to my as part of my work laptop. The touchpad is having design flaw, after 6 month still not able to get on terms of using the touchpad. I'm going to perm disable touchpad, as it interfere with keyborad usage, i should learn to use a external mouse with the laptop... consider the travel time.. in ariports, this is the worst s*** someone could make.

This is one of Worst laptop you can find in market. Looks lenovo enginering team is at their low. With Ubuntu 12.04, niether wifi nor LAN works. Touch pad is one of the junk u can see.

Overall if you are going to purcahse this laptop, you are wasting your money.

Just got this today and i seem to get different results with this review. My hard drive (7200 rpm) is really quiet and is practically silent. In fact, this whole laptop is very silent (4700mq).
I Actually love the track pad and the design tweaks.

The power consumption measurement is not correct. I easily get the iddle wattage down to 4W and 10.3 hour of batteryeater readaers' check and 5 hours of playing 1080p - on 56Wh battery. The energy management is exactly the same as for T440P - because L440 is the same notebook but without the carbon cover and backlit keyboard...

new Thinkpad X240 and Carbon X1 are also quite shitty, these x-series are going more retarded with each "update", f-u Lenovo for this.  >:(

This is the most disappointed I've ever been with a ThinkPad, It's all starting to add up for me, the removal of the perfect touchpad and button setup, the chiclet keys, poor screens.

Lenovo are both trading on the ThinkPad name and simultaneously destroying it. Ever edging towards form over function and trying to conform to the aesthetic popularity of other laptops. That is not what I ever wanted from my ThinkPad.

Sad times.

P.S. Notebookcheck ist zeer gut ! lol, my German is poor.

It's a ThinkPad – will it do the thinking for you? At first glance, Lenovo's new L440 from the ThinkPad line looks well-built and seems rigid as expected. Find out in our test report whether the laptop can live up to this first impression, and whether it can compete on the market in terms of performance.
