I have used this T430 for over 7 years. The biggest problem with this laptop has been its DVD drive player. I am aware of many colleagues who had problems with the DVD drive player. In almost all cases these drives have stopped working. On the other front the laptop is quite robust and stable. I have done lot of CUDA programming using NVS5400M GPU and found that the integration of this GPU hardware is quite good. I faced another issue related to mild electric shocks while swiping fingers on the fingerprint reader.

This is a great notebook. We get them all the time off lease. We clean, test, and resell them on the secondary market. We are experts on the secondary market for IT equipment. You can not buy them new, but there are stores like https://filmar.com/?s=lenovo&post_type=product that have them in stock. Again Lenovo T430 is a great workhorse even if its second hand refurbished.

Quote from: Freddell on July 14, 2016, 23:38:13Comparing to T440 or T450, the T430 has a brighter and better screen (1600x900)
As the T450 is available with a Full HD IPS screen with 300 nits brightness, that's wrong.
Quote from: Freddell on July 14, 2016, 23:38:13T430 can accept more RAM
Wrong. The T450 supports 32 GB RAM while the T430 supports a maximum of 16 GB.
Quote from: Freddell on July 14, 2016, 23:38:13Can have dedicated GPU
Both the T440 and the T450 were available with a dedicated GPU in some countries.

If we put this review in perspective, the T430 is pretty decent.
Comparing to T440 or T450, the T430 has a brighter and better screen (1600x900)
T430 can accept more RAM
Has a faster processor, 35W compared to the 15W in T440 and T450
Can have dedicated GPU
Can use PCcard expansion for eGPU
Easy to swap CPU
Dedicated trackpad buttons.
Yes the fan makes a louder sound than T420, but the succeeding models are a joke compared to T430.
Fully supports Windows 10 if needed
Fully supports Windows 7

I was a fan of T series until I purchased T430 yesterday. Even as I am typing this, my left palm is getting fried from the heat generated on the left palm rest. After going through various user threads, it seems to be a common problem because of HDD setting. Which means that it can not be fixed :( My money down the drain :(

I've got this laptop from the company with Win 7 installed. It is a complete disaster to work on! 14″ full HD display (16:9) , you don't see a damn thing on it. I tried any possible font shape and size , but it makes it even worse , because I can not read even a short sentence on that screen without scrolling half of my lifetime through the document. The keyboard is just not right , loud to type and have a cheap , heavy feeling. The function key is placed just on the worth position, which is very bottom, left side corner, where usually the control button is placed 9 well, on any other office use laptops I had so far), not to mention the rest of the arithmetic operators, arrow and the navigation keys. The rubber touch pad got dirty on the first day , almost no way to clean it ( the wet wipes are not an option, as it leaves the rubber hairy).

I went from a thinkpad T42 to a T420/430, and the screen size was a horrible disappointment!  First of all, the T42 had a 14.1" diagonal screen of 101 square inches.  The T420/430's screen is only 85 square inches!  Second of all, you lose 25% of the real estate (i.e. the "wings"), for a 4:3 aspect ratio picture, on a 16:9 display.  So the 85 square inches is cut down to 67 inches!!  You have lost fully ONE THIRD of your screen real estate!  The T420/430 display has as much real estate as an 11.8" display in the 4:3 generation!  In my opinion, 15.6" laptops are essential for serious work, especially programming or writing (vertical) documents.

I have this exact same model and can not recommend this for anyone!
First: when connecting external monitor to the laptop it uses the nvidia graphics for the task. This increases system power consumption which increases noise.
Then there is the noise issue. System fan has this annoying high pitch noise which is unbearable in silent environment.
Third: the display is terrible - close to unusable. At this price the display should be best you can get.
Keyboard was much better in t400. This has home and page end buttons in wrong place.
I can't believe I chose this lenovo over a Mac book. This will definitely be my last lenovo!

Gentle evolution. Instead of taking a radical change, Lenovo steps gently in advancing their established ThinkPad series. The quick Ivy Bridge processors should increase the performance and innovations, such as USB 3.0, should demonstrate their will to improve. But how will adherents of the ThinkPad react to the first integrated Chiclet keyboard?
