What others have alluded to is the processing occurring in the Vivo X300 vs the Sony.  Phone cameras tend to go for sharpness as one of the main goals in the processing of the image.  Dedicated Cameras tend to keep in camera software processing a little bit less aggressive on JPEG's and none on RAW images other than the settings of the camera.  Impressive, yes and this rule still applies, "The best camera in the world is the one you have in your hand".  Phones take the skill level and throw that out the window with the exception of composition and being there at the moment!

This is such a stupid test and one that as always gives uninformed people more half truths about what they're seeing.

The bottom line is it's a jpeg test. What are they even comparing here, except algo software from 10years ago versus today. Go render the RAW image and you will see how much detail is and isn't there which is why one camera will always be a professionals choice and timeless whilst the other isn't.

Also why even compare a variable zoom lens at it's weakest focal length versus a prime 35mm lens. That's just stupid, nothing further to say.

Not to take anything away from the Vivo, because those are seriously impressive photos in their sharpness and color balance. However, I wish they had shown some portrait photos too, because pixel-peeping long-distance shots is only one measure of a camera's quality. The Vivo has a much wider aperture and therefore takes much faster photos (1/880 sec vs 1/100 sec in one photo I noticed), the image resolution is almost 2.5x the Sony, and the file size is 6x as large... It's no surprise the details are sharper at full zoom. But regardless of the reasons, the photos ARE sharper.

There are still intrinsic qualities of a "SLR" photo that you don't get from a tiny sensor and flat lens glass, like depth separation and true bokeh. Algorithmic portrait blur and color grading simulations are great and they may get you 90% of the way there, but generally there's still a difference to a discerning examiner. But again, the Vivo is very impressive and it's making me reconsider buying an APS-c travel camera, because I'm no longer a professional photographer and this certainly seems like it could be more than "good enough" for good casual snaps.

Correction: Even at night a phone can take usable, or even better, photos: smartzone.de/kommentar-systemkamera-kritik. Unless you earn money with your camera and you know what you are doing / need, just use the phone, it's equally good in most cases when it comes to taking photos. But for taking videos a dedicated camera is still going to provide much better video quality. Only question is: Do you really need it.

Nothing new and in daylight a smartphone is good enough for most and the sales of many dedicated cameras went down crazy low maany years ago. He hasn't done night shots for obvious reasons, but 11:48 and 23:10 show a little where it would go. Same reason why a 7S III has only 12M pixels, but is very good in low-light. Also, when it comes to taking videos, smartphones are far behind (I only wonder if it's on purpose as to not cannibalize their dedicated camera sales), even in daylight

English subtitles crashed on me too but I was able to restart them right after and continue on through the whole video. That being said, gorgeous images. I knew this day would come. My good friend that always carries a pocket camera with a zoom lens (not even close to that Sony's quality) and a phone will be shocked as he claimed it couldn't be done any time soon. I made a bet with him towards the middle of last year that it would happen in 2-3 years at most.

Time to collect that steak dinner! Very nice.

200MP photos from what is currently probably the best camera flagship phone on the market go up against 24MP shots from a Sony Alpha A7 III setup with a Sony 24-70 lens. Which one comes out ahead in which areas can be judged by anyone based on the available original images.
