What we are going to get is a gx-10 that is the same body as the S9 only with the smaller sensor... In the same way that the G9 Mark II and the S5 Mark II share a body and battery.
My real life desire would be to get a GX-8 replacement. I use the weatherproof capabilities of the GX-8 and would not give that up for a GX-9 equivalent camera. Also the 8 has a microphone Jack. Take that body.. Add the new sensor, LUTs, processor,IBIS and keep the swivel EVF, and you would have an outstanding new M4/3 super-camera.

Oh, definitely not!  I had GX7s, but skipped the GX8, it was too big and bulky. I now have GX9 and G9 bodies.  Will probably get a G9 II, and would love to update my GX9 to GX10.

I absolutely agree with your opinion. I was really hoping for an updated GX9 (or GX0) that has that new 25MP sensor and updated resolution for the view finder and memory card supporting UHS-II. It would've been perfect for everyday stylish carry with a vast selection of M43 lenses already available that will keep the weight and size of the package small and pocketable. No matter how small S9 is, full frame glass is going to be the determining factor for the size of the total package! It would've made more sense if they gave the S9 a fixed fast lens instead of being interchangeable!
I hope Panasonic reads your article.

I gave up waiting for gx10, bought om5 instead a year ago. Menus are mine boggling for anything at all advanced but otherwise it's perfect.. I e been using digital cameras since 1999.

Yes! Exactly! A few weeks ago, for product, landscape, flower and street photography, disappointed no one has launched anything like it since, I bought another (silver) GX8 on eBay. My last was 10 years ago. Loved the form factor, flip up EVF (that is so good it still compares to the latest from Panasonic and Sony today), face forward flippy screen, dual dials, perfectly sized grip etc. Literally the only negs that the S9 fixes are lack of USB-C in camera charging and faster sensor. I felt the GX9 was not as good tbh due to lack of face forward screen & smaller grip, but get your point and agree, a GX10 or GX8mk2 would have been way better received than the RX100 like S9. (RX100 is technically outstanding but a slippery ergonomic nightmare!)

Agree completely.
A GX-10 as described was exactly what I was hoping Panasonic was going to release, and was exactly what I was looking for. Very disappointing. Perhaps Panasonic will eventually see the light and give us that GX-10.

The S9 will not hold water to a standard Sony offering.   They should jave presented an upgraded GX9 for m43... heers.

109% agree and called out all the shill YouTubers egging on this trash camera! New LX or GX was the better move here! I have an S5 and love it.. but this misses the mark!
I don't understand Panasonic sometimes.. we had it so good.. and your ruining it!

See, Panasonic?  Even non-camera websites know!  Get moving.

GX9ii/GX10 FTW!

There is one inaccuracy in the article though, the battery on the S9 is not small.

The S9 uses Panasonic's 16 Wh DMW-BLK22 battery, the same one found in the S5II, G9II, and GH5II.

"Panasonic's recent release of the Lumix S9 was rather positively received, with much of the praise for the camera coming from its relatively small size and impressive performance."

Uhhhh... This camera release caused one of the biggest controversies & shitstorms in the camera industry in 5 years at least, causing a massive camera enthusiast backlash and widespread discussions about how bad camera reviews are. Gerald Undone posted a long essay about how camera reviews are broken and how camera makers contribute to the problem in response to the negative chatter on the internet.

Guess that counts as "rather positively received"...

Panasonic's new Lumix S9 is a feat of engineering and design, stuffing a full-frame sensor with IBIS into a body smaller than even many Micro Four Thirds cameras. That form factor comes with serious sacrifices, though. No EVF, no mechanical shutter, and no hot shoe. Panasonic should have just updated its Lumix GX line-up and made a full-featured Micro Four Thirds camera, instead.
