Maybe it just to buy another device and leave theirs alone.  For a company run a business on, make pi your go to that bad.  I have a pi 3 and used it 3 times.

Raspberry Pi is actively preventing enthusiasts from upgrading soldered memory to a larger configuration even when the replacement chip is technically compatible. The company says the restriction is intended to discourage unofficial high-capacity resales.
